G'day all, I'm wondering if anyone has an ARB rooftop tent on their 100 Series Cruiser where the tent is installed so the ladder comes down the back of the vehicle.

I'm looking for this because this is how I want to install my rooftop tent but I just want to see if there's enough room between the floor of the tent when it's opened and the rear door of the Landcruiser when that's opened as well.

Ideally I'd like to have both the top and lower rear doors of the Cruiser opened while I've got the tent opened up as well. The annex will then go around all of that so we can either sleep another 2 people in the back of the car or have the back being used as a kitchen of sorts.

Cheers in advance.

Brett I was in Make Tracks Midland this morning and looked at the ARB rooftop tent. Don't think you could have the ladder and tailgate up at the same time. The ladder comes straight down the back. Did you check to see if they do a side access one?

Yeah i think it's just a matter of which way you put it, I'm putting mine on a couple of industrial strength Rola roofracks and i'd like to have the tent set up as far back on the bars as possible. I'm really hoping to have it this way but on my Cruiser, kind of like this.

I was thinking later on that if you had it on a slideout tray with supporting legs under that would work. But how far above your roof line does the top door swing?

That last picture you posted would work but it doesn't show whether the top door is open.

Brett

The ARB used to be a Howling moon made Rooftop Tent and then they sourceed the same thing from China.

So if this what yours is I can help you.

I have a Howling Moon which came Attacched to my new JEEP as part of a Salary Package deal.

It opened to the side, however that does affect what your asking about if I read it correctly.

When opening either sideways or to the back the half that folds over when opened imakes a straight line horizontally with part attached to the vehicle.

This is above roof height as it will be mounted on a roof rack or ski bars.

The ladder is attached to the outer edge of the fold over, away from the vehicle so that you can open the doors no problems.

The only hiccup ijn all of this is when you zip the skirt around the doors will/may touch the shirt and if there is spare tyres, recovery gear mounted on the external areas of the door/s, it will rub on the side of the skirts once pegged down.

The height of a cruiser will be sufficient to drop the ladder.

Cheers Lucy, that helps a lot. I've got no spare tyres or other bits on the back doors so it should all fit nicely. Sounds like it could work.

OK, here's a pic I found with a different rooftop tent but this is how I'm looking at setting it up so I can have both the upper and lower rear doors open.

Hi Brett
I have the howling moon brand on my 80 series that opens to the rear, they are 2.4 meters long so it opens 1.2 so just measure the tailgate and see if it works. I think the biggest problem will be the top door opens up much higher than the roof line so it may hit it, but would easily be solved with a bit off foam. My model can be fitted with a lot of overhang at the back, I think from memory it is over 200mm. I have a spare wheel on the back and all I do is open it before I hang the room of the tent. Here is the Howling Moon site http://www.apexleisure.com.au/index.php?module=Website&action=Text&content=1139467716078-5889&parentContent=1139467514390-1274 this will have all the dimensions

Have fun

Craig

Hi Brett,
Take a look at the second pic in my rig profile, is this the type of set up you are after?

Hey Dustin, thats spot on except I've got the GXL doors. By the looks of that I reckon the bottom of the tent would only touch the upper door when opened. Cheers for that, I think it could be good to go.
