G'day all
Looking for a tv aerial to use with a normal analoge tv in the campertrailer when we're near town. I'm after something that packs up small and can be clipped onto a tent pole or something similar. Would one that is just uhf be ok, I don't really know too much about the subject so any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Jon

UHF would be OK for digital as most digital transmissions are in the UHF band. If you're after analogue then you would need the VHF part as well as most FTA analogue channels are in this band. ie 7 9 10 etc. Also depends what 'town' you are near as every tower transmits in different frequencies which means you have to auto tune each time you stop. Some towers transmit vertically and some horizontally which determines whether your antenna is laid flat or up on its side. Best bet is to try a caravan shop as they will have a universal type antenna which is designed to best cover all these variations and in a suitable size. Hope this is of some help!

I find the antenna which came with the set works fine if the transmission is close. I mount it outside. If I can't get a signal I read a book or listen to the wireless. Works better than those stupid wind up antennas that the trendy campers have. It's a sure sign of a "newbie" when a camper has a wind up antenna or a pull out awning that has to be rolled away at the first sign of wind.

I just bought one of those $10 jobbies from Dick Smith which worked well whenever we wanted to watch tv. No good out of town, but then we didn't want tv out in the bush.

Just saw an article in a Motorhomes mag from here in Oz - lot of annoyed vanners all over Oz re their poor performing TV antennas - even the expensive ones can be near on useless. Re Mick's comment - I agree that it seems the best plan is take an ordinary domestic antenna with you - will work as well as the costly ones when staying in towns etc. - when further out in the bush, pack the TV away and do the bushy things ! If you really want to watch TV when right out of towns, antenna height is a big factor - get it way up on a long pole and things improve a lot - Sat TV is the only real winner in the far flung places it sems.
