Van fridges

Just read this post. Any comments?

I am sure most vanners will agree with that some times your fridge is not cold enough,Well since I got my new van in 2004 mine is usless I have tried to get a perfect level but I get a different level in different places you would think that they could make them with a level fitted in the correct spot,I have spoken to a fridge tech and he told me that it would be a level problem and that they must be EXACTLY LEVEL,
As I have had many vans and all my other fridges all worked fine and close enough was good enough why are these new models Usless. For the money they cost you would think that they would work to keep the milk cold at least .So I am open to any suggestion that will help me.
I have fitted 2 fans below the fridge but dose not help much.My freezer works good thats why I was told it was a level problem.
SICK OF WARM BEER HELP NEEDED.

try the Caravan forum as they deal with this stuff all the time. I know the fans should not be at the bottom and should be at the top. There are diagrams there showing how to fix the problem.

Brand, model and size of fridge ?
Noticed compressor upright fridges seem to be featuring in van write-ups more than previously - power is the snag of course, but some people cater for that with extra hardware and obviously skip the gas models.

The local caravan place near me suggested taking the freezer door off, that cooled the fridge down more in my case and didn't seem to affect the freezer temp. Have since put a 12v fridge made for the space in now and it works just like the fridge at home, I willl put the gas one back in when I sell the van.

We too have perservered with our Electrolux 3 way in the Jayco for years. It has its good and bad days. But it certainly is a little forgiving when you talk about being level. Like you said, near enough is good enough.

What power source is giving you cooling problems?

The freezer is seperate to the fridge and will always work fine when the actual fridge doesn't cool well.

What we've discovered is poor cooling can be one or a combination of factors which include:

If on 240 V the AC thermostat might not be functioning properly

If on gas you could have a blockage effecting the thermostat or flame

Poor insulation allowing the cabinet temp to be effected by higher ambiet temp in the van

Poor airflow at the rear of the fridge not allowing the hot air to escape.

Have you had it tested by a 3 way fridge specialist? We did when ours wasn't working properly on gas and had it fixed. Been fine ever since.

The cost and battery setup we need keeps us away from the 12V compressor fridge for the van.
