We are heading off on that long awaited trip around the top end of Australia with our final destination being
Karratha in search of the big $$$$$. Just wondering if anyone has been along the savanah way latley? Is it worth the trip? I have heard the
creek crossings arn't too deep yet.......How hard is the trip on your vehicle? We will be travelling in a 96 Troopie with mud terrains, new Iron man
suspension, bull bar and 2 spare
wheels and tyres, plus I m towing my builders trailer. Is there
drinking water in many
places along the way also.
Thanks for any replies
Joe

Where ya gonna stay in Karatha?
You can stay 1 night in the overflow area at the golf club.
some of the parks have extremely limited sites restricted to 3 nights
.... Or you could rent a place $800 or so a week.
My girlfrind went through this but was lucky enough to get a job which provided accomadation. In
port Hedland for which the company can only get a hoterl room for $800 PW

Mate, luckly for me and the missus i have a mate in
Karratha with his own place and he is going to let us stay there. i have heard all about the accomodation crisis and thats why i m going there as i am a chippy and have finished my builders course so I want to get there and throw up some houses to sell. $800 a week is cheap! On realestate.com the other day there was an old 4 bedroom that they wanted $1500 a week for.......its crazy aye!

troopie tourer,
I would
hazard at a guess that both the Foelshe and Wearyanne Rivers over the border in NT would have fresh
water in them. As for the rest, i don't know.
Cheers,
Bros.

We have just driven the road in the opposite direction and would recomend the drive. The sections that are gravel need to be taken with care but we did it easy in a Terracan towing a Coramal Magnum off road camper. A bit corroguated in
places but is has recenlty been graded. Creeks arent deep at all, dips are not marked with signs so watch out for them.
No fuel at Domadgee, Hells
Gate or Wollogarang, ony emergency stuff.
All reports that we could get were that the section from Borolloola to
Roper BAr is real ruff, we missed that bit.
