Greenant,

I get my 4.0 litre V6 serviced at K-mart auto and they can only get original Toyota plugs at $15 a piece. very expensive plugs me thinks.

I've had the 40k and 80k service recently and price was still the same.

Appears Toyota have the after market stuff required for servicing tied up.

Also tried to get a belt from repco recently and was told to go see a Toyota dealer.

So if anyone can get the stuff from somewhere else please let me know where???

Cheers
Garth

Hi there Garth, $15 each, phew too much. Even though I can get things from Toyota cost price I rang a few weeks ago to get some plugs for mine no special price as I just rang them at Kingswood Toyota where I dont know anyone and they were just on $40 for a set of 6 about $6.36 each for memory. I will get a cost price for mine tomorrow and will ask for a normal customer price and cost price for yours just to see wether kmart is ripping you off, and I would imagine that kmart would be buying them at least trade price. Will let you know. Mine is the 95 series so maybe there is a price different due to different models. I know the platinum tipped ones are around $25 each for the V6 camrys. Im surprised that mine or at least yours are not platinum tipped ones at least they last 100 thou before replacement. Where you located at ?? suburb?? Regards Steve M

Steve,

I'm in Wollongong.

K-mart probably add a margin but the plugs are dear compared to other aftermarket brands. Point is you can only get Toyota plugs at the present.

Or thats what I'm told. Same with some of the other parts.
Radiator hoses and belts.

Repco is straight across the road from the K-mart service centre.

Hi Garth, that price from Kmart would be pretty spot on. I just rang Toyota where I use to work, cost price to me is $11.00 per plug so $15 would be right as Kmart would get trade a bit dearer then I get them for. They are not a platinum tipped plug but are a lot longer in the thread then the standard plug nearly an inch longer. I rang my mate who is head tech for Toyota and he has the same prado as you and he said definately not platinum tipped and cant see any difference in the plug except as said a longer thread. Good to know Kmart are honest with there prices they are charging you for the parts. Regards Steve

Used to pay about $50 for the set when serviced by Toyota dealer. That was when I was foolish enough to be driving a petrol 4wd!!

Greenant, you don't say whether it's a 3.4 or a 4.0 you're referring to.

If it's a 3.4, then I can't help you, but if it's a 4.0 (1GR-FE), then you have a choice ......

Denso (K20HR-U11)
NGK (LFR6C11)

Not sure about the Denso brand, but the NGK ones are readily available at just about any good auto parts store at between $14 - $15 each.
