Trying to decide between the TJM or Opposite Lock twin wheel carrier. Haven’t looked at Kaymar because I want something compatible with a Hayman Reese towbar.
I was concerned about dust with the OL carrier because of the hydraulic struts. Thought they would need to be replaced down the track.
Does anybody have either of these and could offer some feedback
Cheers

Any idea how to get a bit of extra travel with the Paratus seats?? My long legs need an extra couple of inches. The recline is fine- just the track travel..

I'm getting an OL Dual Wheel carrier fitted tomorrow and for me one of the major selling points was the gas struts. I have similar gas struts on our
Kimberley Kamper and after many, many km's we haven't had an issue. I also have a couple of mates that have had the OL bar in the past and now and have been more than happy with it considering the price compared to others.......

The OL design that I saw had them lined up to cop the dirt and stones from the rear
wheels with no protection...
You might want to check that...

The OL dual Wheel Carrier also has an accessory that enables us with bad backs to mount a whinch system to assist in lifting and lowering the
wheels.
I am not sure if it is able to be used with other brands.

Also have a look at strong arm wheel carriers sold in Victoria by a mob called 4x4 All Terrain. There would have to be a supplier up your way. I found that i could get these cheaper than all other brands, they also have the gas struts.

if thats the mob in Moorabbin, I'd look elsewhere... bloke in our club got one on his GU, and had nothing but issues from the start.. if not i'll stand corrected.

Strongarm themselves are made in WA, see
Strongarm
I have a Kaymar on the Troopy, picked it up with one tyre arm and twin pivots for $900

Hi Truckster, So your mate who had the Strongarm carrier from K&N fitted at Allterrain4x4 didn't have any issues with the bar itself???
BTW, if you have a rear bar now you might be interested in strengthening the rear spring hangers - Aaron at ATOC has recently designed some braces that weld in - has had them pressed by Kaymar and is now fitting them - getting a set put in at my next service.
I didn't think you were going to get a nnew bar as you were concerned about the weight???

Wasnt going to get one, but this came up and pretty much right price...
I needed to replace the tuppaware on the corners, and there were no options but a bleep ty looking tube bar.
Know all about the hangers and also check your chassis rails above the diff, dude in our club had his crack completely in 1/2 on both rails (left and right).
But im not using
mine as a carrier, only the bar.
Heavier rear springs next.

Moggs,
Good to see some happy snaps of the braces before they are welded in and then some of them in place.
I at the last min decided not to buy a Opp. Lock rear bar. I thought about the weight and if I go away now I have to almost take a trailer with 2 kids. The extra spare can go in there also. So for the cost of the bar you can get a decent offroad box trailer.
I now run around with medium duty rear springs. Only need the heavy duty for big trips. Only takes an hour to change them.

Truckster thanks for the heads up about 4x4 Allterrain, and there brand of strongarm carrier.
Did a bit of reasearch on these carriers and only K&N 4WD in WA sell strongarm carriers. 4X4 Allterrain are making a copy of K&N's carrier.
A little dodgy if you ask me.
Cost of carrier from K&N $2190 + ($300-400 freight vic)
Truckster or any one else could you give me a little advice on who i could take my truck to its a 75 troopy 2h.
contact me on 0438 024 127

Only have the couple of stories on Allterrain from clubs..
I had an issue myself when I had my car broken into.. needed somewhere to shelter while Obriens man refitted the window. Since AllT were 1klm from work, so thinking I dont have to have a day off work, or 1/2 a day, I called and asked them since they sponsor our club if I could tuck it in the corner for 45mins or less while he changed it... Obriens wouldnt do it outside as it was cloudy and OH&S bull bleep ... He said we are too busy. so had to have 1/2 a day off to make appointment and go get it fitted.
So I called him later in the day pretending to be a person wanting winch, lights, and other gear fitted to a car. He had time and space to do that there and then if I brought the car down as 'we are quiet today'! Yes it was paying customer over a non, but I wont ever go back cause of a bleep ed attitude. I couldnt care less, but Trev in our club has told his story on shocks to others adn they wont go there either unless it was pi$$ talk from Trev..
As for who to go to, try Alan and Rob at Outback accessories in Seaford. What do you want done to the truck? Not sure if Ironman on Westall rd are doing bleep now as
well, but some good blokes there

Stephen,
With all due respect it might be a good idea to check your information again. I bought my genuine K&N rear carrier off them less than 12 months ago. They were the sole Victorian distributor for the Strongarm bar. I originally found this out by speaking with K&N in WA and asking who over here sells them.
BTW, I have had a few dealings with Allterrain4x4 and have found them much better than either TJM or ARB at Dandenong. Might have caught them on a few good days LOL!
If anyone is interested in seeing what the rear spring hanger braces that ATOC are doing let me know your email address and I can pass on a piccie. Don't want to post it up here as I am not sure what Aaron would think about it.

Moggs,
Sorry about not being clear on the previous post. This info was straight from K&N a guy by the name of Vince.
When i told him i know of a company selling there brand told him it was Allterrain , he informed me that Allterrain was once selling a K&N bar and then Allterrain started making there own bar and still calling it a strongarm.
According to K&N they are going to start legal proceedings. (i believe this is only for the name)
As you said Allterrain (dragon) is a nice person to talk to and so far all the dealings i have had with them have been positive.
I will hopefully be going down to see them tomorrow to get a clearer picture. And to get Dragons point of view.
If you doubt any of this just call K&N. Also K&N have told me that they don't use gas struts, the strongarm i saw at Allterrain had gas struts.
Truckster i am preparing my rig for a 1-2 year holiday and i just want it checked by a competent person and by someone that knows a 2h troopy

Steve,
Thanks for
clearing that up. Things obviously change and I can understand why K&N would be a bit miffed that they are calling it by the same name.

In one of my earlier posts i indicated the problem between K&N and AllTerrain. After speaking to AllTerrain today, i got another view on the situation, K&N and AllTerrain where in business together, K&N manufacturing an AllTerrain design.
I was also told K&N are busy with the mining boom and could not manufacture orders for AllTerrain so AllTerrain are now making there own.
Please don't just take my word for it if you are purchasing a wheel carrier contact both parties for yourself.
Regards
Stephen

I got the OL twin wheel carrier (with hi-lift jack mount and HF mount) just before our simpson trip. No major problems yet, but that was only a couple of months ago.
When
mine was installed, they didn't put the "locks" on. This meant that if you were on an incline, the wheel could swing shut. So back to the
shop I went.
Mind you, the locks are just an L-shaped bracket. The are pretty flimsy. Like if the wife decides to close the tyre without swinging the lock away it just bends the metal. Fortunately it is pretty easy to bend back too. It works fine for holding the weight of the tyre if you are on an angle, but not if you apply even moderate force against a closing tyre.
I also need to adjust the latch on the back. I think all the bumps has loosened it a bit. Not that it will swing open, but it does "unlock" a little easier than it used to.
The LED tail lights are nice and
bright.
I think the OL is designed for a (true) hayman reese towbar. If you have a Nissan factory "hayman reese" bar, then they supply spacers to lower the towbar assembly slightly. Mind you, in my case it still didn't quite allow the towbar to fit (go figure).
A friend got a strong-arm twin wheel carrier. The locking mechanism it sturdier, but his bar also had a few quirks (bolt holes not being where they were supposed to be etc).

Are you sure, I was told if I already had a towbar you had to remove it to fit the Kaymar twin wheel carrier.
This is why Kaymar's bar is a carrier and towbar in one and why there is a sleeve for the tow ball and hitch built into their bar.
OL said their's is designed around an exisitng towbar being in place.

Sorry John
Didn't read your post correctly
yes the Kaymar has the 2" hole for the hitch built in to the rear bar, if you have a hitch already you should have a look at the K&N bars (strongArm) they don't have the hitch
Cheers
