A mate is considering buying some Maxxis MTZ tyres for his truck. Anyone had any experience with these tyres?? apparently they're a cross between a mud and an all terrain.... looking for opinions from those who have actually used them please.

Cheers

Brian

G'day Brian

I recently got some maxxis bighorns on my car, see my rig pic for the tread pattern. I have not had them long enough for any comments on wear ect, but have found them to be quite grippy off road, and no louder than any other mud tyre on road. Grip on road in the wet and dry has proven to be very good so far. Sorry thats about all I can say as I have only had them for about 5000kms

Price was 'right' too

Cheers Stefan

I have maxxis bravo tyres on a LC100 because I am on road a lot more than off which they are very good for but when I do go off road they are not so good. Cant have everything in just one set.

Brain,
I'm running the Maxxis AT on my LC80 at the moment but only done 10K. So far so good. But would go MT next time (actually looking around now and run two sets) They are much cheaper then other leading brands. I have been told they don't last as long, but a half the price I don't mind if they last half as long, less money tired up in rubber really. Others say they're not as strong or reliable and are prone to punchers, haven't had any yet and not afraid of using the spare.

If you are talking about the Buckshot from Maxxis then Pezza would be the one to speak to, he has had a set for ages and from what I have seen him do with them I would say they are good to great.

I have a set of the Trepador maxxis on my Blizzard and from the limited use on these tyres I like what I see but time will tell.

Hope this helps as I have not heard of the MTZ Maxxis, but this is my 2cents worth regarding the models I have heard of.

Cheers, Trevor.

Hey Brian,

I have the Maxxis Buckshots on the Patrol and so far so good, on and off road. Early days though.

You sure you're not getting the Maxxis MTZ's confused with the Mickey Thompson MTZ's? I have not heard of Maxxis MTZ's.

If your talkin Mickey Thompson MTZ's theres a thread on OL about them, sadly a few neg comments on them, but most kids liked them for the bling look... some were saying soft sidewalls were an issue.
