I am looking around for a 12 V Microwave. The only one I can find is the Samsung Roadmate. Does anyone know of other brands/models available? Also, has anyone had any bad experiences with the Samsung?

Our boat that we bought 2nd hand at 12 mths old has a Samsung 12V microwave fitted. It is connected to 2 large batteries but willl not operate more than a few seconds before stopping and flashing something about low voltage. I'm sure the batteries are OK but have not yet had time to investigate the wiring behind it etc to trace potential problems. Just be sure it will actually work in your installation.

Gday
Leave poor Robin alone, he is possibly sitting at his table with his feet up having lunch.

Hi Guys
Actually am listening to ABC and someone telling us how good coffee is for you, so might go and get a cup.
As for Microwave , that model is a normal unit with and inverter inbuilt instead of external, and this would be the way to go as its
both cheaper and more versatile.
Caution, in my recent post about running cheap microwave it made a lot noise of a square wave inverter - so I'd check this out or get sinewave unit.
Haven't tested one yet , but I would suggest the Panasonic 1100w Inverter model would be most efficent , but note it stills needs an external inverter.

Just remember how much current a 12V microwave will need.
I do not know the Samsung specs, but a 600W microwave (small by any standards) will need at least 50 Amps!!
You need lots of
battery power to keep that sort of current up for long, and really heavy cables to minimise voltage drop.
cheers,
glids

yes tony i have one and it works very
well coats was about $760 as few years back - i use 2 x 4 metres of heavy 12mm approx starter cable for + ve and - ve cables and run it off a 100 amp hr deep cycle battery on the front of the KK and carry it in the patrol in a specially made box to minimise any chance of damage - only use it occassionally when have driven all day and very tired to
cook up a quick meal - usually
cook frozen lean cusines etc as microwave meals and it does that fine in about 10 to 12 mins each per meal and uses about 40 to 50 % of battery capacity - also use it to heat up hot pack rice packs as and when the need is there for hot pack plus a frozen cold pack migraine relief etc which was a major reason for me to buy it as unfortunately a migraine sufferer etc - works fine for me for what i needed at the time but as i say i only use occassionally and then always recharge my battery with a honda 10eui
see you greg

The boat wiring wont be up to the task...especially if it has to flow 40 amps...
For 760 dollars, id be looking for a $65 Aldi microwave and a 2000w sine wave inverter to run it and other things too...
