Just before Willem & Uncle Milton turned up had a visit from Gone Bush (WA) who arrived in his maroon V8 ute & Trakmaster van. Gone Bush (Steve) and Ian had a good look over each other's utes and a good whinge about some things. Going to have a photo opportunity tomorrow with three of the V8 outside the Bakery and will post photo tomorrow night.

Awe Gee Ruth, i don't want to improve the photo, just put it in the foreground to hide the toyo badges. Lol. How's the ute going? Is it going as expected or is too early in Ks to get a realistic guide?
Cheers Bob.

Hey Zuk, now going too bad but not really pleased with fuel consumption - that was today's whinge. Gone Bush also has an issue with towing - we haven't noticed that yet. Ours is definitely improved since the 3" exhaust (about 100 klms/tank better). As passenger I have issue with the large transfer case which intrudes into leg area for passenger. It's very comfortable to travel in and like the gearbox very much. Eats Big Red. Long distance travel is easy and like being in an auto - hardly change gears. We'll have another whinge session tomorrow at the photo opportunity!
Cheerio.

Hi Mike - we had the first one in Birdsville (in the rain!) a couple of years ago.

Hi Ruth
Im a couple of years too late, damn. Suppose it will have to do the rounds of all states before coming back to Qld.
Have managed to dodge the rain every time I visit, which isn't hard I suppose.

Mike, I didn't ask Willem what was decided for the next National Gathering (and I haven't looked at the Gathering site either). It's great when it rains here - except for the sound of panic amongst the campers of course.

Hey there Ruth... I wouldn't want an F truck in my photo shoot either..now nice new Toyota (the rest are just pretend) :)

I was thinking of bringing mine over from Canada just for something different to drive

I wll be down checking out my irrigation system at Mungerannie in October..ok ok and pondering how Phil and I might put in a nice cricket ground and stuff as well.. and maybe a beer or six :)

Yup SWMBO came for the first couple of months but had to go back and work..left me to my own devices to yet another 4x4 rental and straight back to the track.

Are there many tourists in town (Birdsville) this season or just normal traffic ? Might have to hitch a ride with Tom on the roadtrain :)

Geez, P, you're lucky she works to keep your 4 x 4 habits!!!! No, not as many as I'd thought for this time of the year. Tom is due tomorrow night and then again race week (yahoo, fresh veg on Friday).

Hello Ruth
Remember us - my wife Carol was after Gluton Free stuff and thanks for you reply. Well -we camped 2 nights at the Caravan Park and it was very crowded, I think due to the end of school hols,we asked about where you were in Birdsville to just look you up and say hello but no result.Had a nice stay and looked around the Old Museum and got some nice fresh bread from the Bakery.
We were put off a little with the number of vehicles in the Desert for the first couple of days.Poeppels had around 20 cars parked there. The Radio on ch 10 was a blessing to avoid head on greetings. We even saw one bloke with a Jayco ,let alone all the other trailers. We were there 5 years ago and only saw around 10 vehicles on the 5 day crossing. A little sad but I guess thats progress.Difficult to enjoy the remoteness when concentrating on oncoming traffic.

Trevor and Carol, of course I remember you. What date were you here - because I was here a few weeks ago, but not many people might have known I was here - keeping a low profile!
By the way, if you stop in Mitchell (Q) there is a fantastic bakery and he bakes all gluten-free bread and cakes on Thursdays!!
Yep the Sd makes you wonder - no some of the people in the SD make you wonder. Still, there are places you can go out there and not see anyone - so that's good. We'll be only here until mid-Sept then going back east to build the house. Keep in touch though. Ruth and Ian.
