I have just bought an '74' model (3cyl 2stoke) for a farm vehicle, my problem is the amount of smoke it blows. It runs as sweet as and it has very little smoke at idle or even when revved, But once you drive it the amount of smoke becomes pretty unacceptable even for a farm hack.It has plenty of power to make it up the
hill in my street (sssshhhh unregestered) so I'm counting out rings.
Does anyone know if the 2 stoke oil injection pump is adjustable? because I think it is over oiling causeing the smoke.

I used to have one of these 30 years ago.
A mate of
mine had one as
well and he siezed his by stuffing around with the oil injection. I almost cured
mine of excess smoking by changing to Bell Ray (I think) synthetic 2 stroke oil.
Have you tried this?
Cheers

Hi Swampy
I still have my LJ50.The oil pump at the front of the motor(just follow the oil line down) may just need adjusting. When you move the accelerater cable another cable is attached to the oil pump. The pump arm position should just be off the stop point.Make sure there is no slack in the two cables. Also make sure the spark plugs are NGK B7HS and gapped to 0.7mm.Never use any other brand of plugs.I have used Castrol super TT two stroke oil for 25 years in
mine and it runs like a dream.
Have fun.

This post is pretty funny as I've just got one of these little jiggers too, 1977 model softop (
well it used to!) and it too smokes like anything as
well. In my case the previous owner was worried that the oil pump wasn't working so ran it on premix, I've been giving it some TLC and cleaned out the oil
tank, checked everything over and then put some Castroll TT in the oil
tank so now it's getting way too much oil. Nearly blocked out the neiighbourhood when I went for a drive (unregisterd too)
I have a workshop and owners manual and some of the manuals can be downloaded from www.lj10.com as
well as lots of how to articles, spare parts info and lots of titbits.

Great little vehicle
Needs careful adjustment of the oil pump. There is no blow buy in a 2 stroke like the traditional four stroke. There should no oil in the crankcase of any quantity.
Mine NEVER smoked, I flogged it mercilessly!
I took
mine to obscene
places in the
Pilbara and Kimberly's in the 70's. It unfortunately dissolved after a couple of years as I used to drive it offshore at low tide to islands off the
Pilbara coast.
I even used to tow a 19' boat behind it to the
Derby launching ramp

Thanks guys, I never thought to change the twostroke oil who knows what type of oil is in it. I was going to clean out the
tank and fill with TT but if Peter is having trouble with it then the synthetic stuff might be better.
