Hi all, Just a quick one hopefully someone will know this one!. I am going to install a new Vehicle Media system into my cruiser. The wiring has a Pink wire tagged brake and a purple wire tagged speed. Are both of these wires for the DVD safety system which will not allow the DVD to play if the handbrake is off or if the vehicle is moving? Do I have to wire both of them in to my original wiring or can I just connect both straight to a 12 volt source in turn allowing the DVD to be watched whilst vehicle is travelling. I know it is illegal to have the DVD playing whilst driving but it isnt for me its for the happy wife in the passenger seat.

Cheers Worm

I would say the pink wire should be connected to a earth point as it will bring the monitor on all the time.

They are designed for when the handbrake is engaged (vehicle not moving) the monitor will turn on and when the handbrake is disengaged (vehicle moving) the monitor will turn off.....just don't get caught.

A way around it is if you have a GPS function you can have it working all the time.

The speed wire I don't know about.

Regards Richard

Just what we need, another driver distracted by DVDs, they should be banned!

Just what we need someone puttting there two cents worth in without knowing all the facts....... The Dvd screen is set away from the driver and can only be viewed from the passenger or rear seat passenger. I have a three year old son that will happily watch a DVD whilst driving a find a noisy three year old more distracting than a kids DVD that I am not interested in.

There are plenty that are mounted clearly visible to the driver, as far as I'm concerned they are an unnecessary distraction.
You are obviously breaching the law by wanting to wire it illegally.

It is possible the speed wire is for a speed alert. I had a VDO Dayton system that hooked up to the gearbox i think abd was calibrated and you set a speed and it went off when you exceeded the speed.
