Hi All

One of my good mates has an F250, its the 4.2 TD not the V8. Anyway 190,000km and its blown up, hasnt been pulled down yet to see extent of damage but quotes from Ford for a replacement are $30k !!!!!! Is this for real??

Apparently that motor is german or italian or something so he told me, I dont know a lot about F Trucks about other than they are a big bulky overpriced boat like heapa Sh#te? Can you import the 6 cylinder motors direct from somewhere and avoid Ford?

I have to say after all the hype I have heard about F trucks the 1st time I drove one I really did wonder what all the fuss is about....

Anyway Hope someone can help

they are brazilian (like the wax job ) a rip off!!
his best bet would be the f truck wreckers or importers. i dont think the yank effies have these engines.
good luck!

Do a white pages search for "F Series". A number of businesses have this in their name in different states. Your mate may get some competitive quotes or at least a few leads. Also he could try searching for companies who import direct from USA and fit motors - i think there are some around the country. There may be complications with the lh and rh drives with a direct import.

And to re-assure you that you are right; they don't have near the finish of the likes of Nissan and Toyota, there were Brazilian built for the Australian market, probably are overpriced (particularly the 7.3 litre - i don't think the 4.2 litre was too bad) and you do need almost 1½ parking spaces to park one. Personally, if i was buying a 4.2 litre, it wouldn't be an F250, but we wanted something bigger for towing and there isn't too many alternatives other than the yank tanks. Ours is comfortable and very easy to drive.

"they are a big bulky overpriced boat like heapa Sh#te" Well you could say that up until the point where you hook the trailer on then they are the best tow vehicle available with their long wheel base, width & extra weight making them very stable. Our work truck is fully loaded with tools & gear yet you can hook a 2 tonne trailer on & it barely knows it's there then still get 18 mpg.
There probably are a few build issues with the vehicle as some of the ones in our fleet have had annoying problems but not a great deal more than other brands.

Hunat around, if the states has them in there yards, do a google search first, then email the guys, you may have to fly over there to get the motor or pay for it as a lot of yank businesses wont accept credit cards over the net, phone. But you maybe able to pick up a good motor thats yank built not made in brazil and better motor. It pays to do weeks of searching. or a few days worth and don't give up?????? Never give up????

The motor is made by MWM in Brazil. There are australian companies using their engines in trawlers and other applications.

yeah avoid Ford dealerships first up.

They will take the cost of the part then double it and tell you that's what it's worth.

b4 you do anything, get it out and appart....easier to just rip it out whole than pull it appart in situ...i just rebuilt a cruiser turbo diesel for 4000 and that was with rebore/pistons, so u may be able to fix this one...also check www.pickles.com.au for written off wrecks
