Hi-just returned from this jaunt - 23 days in all. Went:coober Pedy-Alice-Plenty Hwy/Sandover Hwy-Camooweal-Lawn Hill-MBurketown-Normanton-Karumba. Returned via: Cloncurry-Mt Isa-Boulia-Diamentina NP-Bedouri-Birdsville-Birdsville Track-Farina (Private road via Mulgaria) to Andamooka-Woomera and home.
Don't underestimate the Sandover 'Highway" - we were lucky and met the grader after a hundred or so kilometers but up til then it was awful. Also it is only a 4x4 track from the Qld border to Camooweal-not even a 'road'. It took us 15 hours to do the whole length and it was very isolated in parts.
The Mulgaria road to Andamooka also has it s moments-I've never seen damage such as was done to my desert Duelers by the last section before Andamooka - like thousands of razor blades had been impressed into the tread causing thousands of tiny cuts-some not so tiny!
Happy to go into more detail if anyones interested. Cost $1000 in diesel; 8 nights bush camping;7 nights caravan parks 8 nights hotel/motels. Got 11.19 litres/100k out my 2.8 Triton (with aftermarket turbo)-fairly heavily loaded up.

Happy days
Geo

We did a similar trip last year but came home more direct.

I would like to do it again in winter like you did we went in September.
It was so hot it made sleeping uncomfortable.
Isn't Lawn Hill a beautiful place.
The Triton did well.

Cheers Scoof..

Did the catfish nibble your toes?

All went for a swim as soon as we arrived. I have never seen the missus eyes go so wide so quickly or her swim so fast.

Cheers
