There's a small oval rubber grommet on the back of the backing plate. After removing this, with the wheel jacked up, you adjust the knurled knob with a suitable adjuster (an appropriately sized screwdriver will do)
by poking thru the hole like a lever. The idea is to adjust it just enough so that the wheel will spin freely with no brake drag evident. From memory, screwdriver handle going down (knurled nut up) tightens the brakes.
You can also remove the drum to do it but as this involves the hub bearings as
well obviously that isn't the way to go.

Before you do this, pull the brake drums off, and hose out all the garbage, it will prolong you linings life, allow the brakes to work better.
Also
check the magnets are not coming loose. Loose magnets can jamb things up, and bend the axle stubs.
If you ring ALKO on 1800035603, they will post you a service manual, very helpfull people.

Yes I agree- If the brakes have some decent
miles on them it's worth looking inside and cleaning it up and removing dust etc. (hence water is a good idea- keeps the dust down)
Don't breath any dust in though- could easily have asbestos or other nasties in it.
Cheers
