Footloose
For those crossing the Nullabore next month, the white Landcruiser with the big aerial on the back won't be me.
Yes I know it will look like me.
And I know it will sound like me.
It may even act like me.
But it can't be me.
After all, I don't sing "fruit fly, don't bother me..."
I'd have to go through SA...and I'm too old top climb the fence.
But say g'day anyway if you see the old guy on his Pat Malone.
Don't be alarmed by his grotty appearance.
Don't laugh if he asks where the b&**^% h*(( are we...he's probably been driving day and night. And that's Ok if you're 30ish, but not as you get on a bit.
What a waste of a 4wd...tar...yuk.

Hey Footie ,
Take some talking books and the time will fly . The Nullarbor becomes the most boring stretch of road after a few trips .
I can't imagine that an old fart like you has not done the trip and the lookouts a few times before .
What are you going to do after you have crossed it?
Willie .

Willie, been there done that many times. Never bored, as I have the most interesting person around to chat to..ME LOL
However, when the only thing you've said to a live human for a week is "fill er up please "(not even that in modern times of course), you know its time to phone home.
Have to make a quick dash for business and personal reasons, and need to have a car full of stuff when I get there...or I'd do the cheaper option and fly.

It's a drive I havn't done yet, and although we may be going to tassie again [
well, me anyway] we'll be flying.
Early last year my work bought a new VW transporter and I tried to convince the boss into saving some money by buying it in NSW [less stamp duty] and flying me over so I could drive it back, just so I could say I've driven the Nullabor!!! te he.
NUP.....he wouldn't be in it....spoil sport!
Cheers,
Muzz

It's a great drive if you're not tied to a schedule. Lots to see and do, believe it or not. It's always different, yet familiar.
To give you an idea, I was sitting outside one roadhouse early one morning chatting to the staff on their break, about a dozen
young female backpackers. I thought there has got to be at least a hundred
young blokes swearing that there are no single females in this area :))
It usually rains when I go across. Strange, but it does. Even in summer I rekkon that wind comes straight off the South Pole.
And the cops always pull me over for a "license check" around
Eucla. They've never miseed yet, even when I had my wife and kids with me.
