Anybody had good or bad experiences with the DPChip used on a 3.0ltre Nissan. Are they worth the investment.

According to many posts on this forum, the 3.0 Nissan is not worth the investment.

Hi TD,
I have just had (6 wks) one installed after umming and ahhing for some time. Difference in low end performance is really noticeable. I have an auto and it really compliments the auto. Pulls from 1500rpm whereas before it just changed down. Fuel is about the same so far, does everything now at 200 - 300rpm less than before and effortlessly.

I live in Melb and it pulls out of the tunnel without changing down whereas before it always kicked down.

Hi TD.
I too have just recently had a DP chip fitted to my 2004 3 litre Patrol. I went a bit further and had a Beaudesert 2 3/4" exhaust system fitted as well as my EGR sort of stopping working at the same time. Had to have the turbo boost wound back slightly to stop the OE computer 'shutting down' at cruise speeds and now all is fine. Got an EGT guage fitted shortly after so I could monitor the motors stress levels (I intend to tow a caravan soon).
Bottom line is that the car now pulls noticeably better at all rev ranges, with a particular improvement from 1500 RPM. Have towed a 1.5+ tonne speedboat on a tandem trailer and the vehicle's ability to pull away from a standstill, even on a hill, is now great.
Due (we believe) to the larger exhaust (and possibly the EGR failure), the dial setting on the DP chip was able to be wound up to 9 (usual setting on a ZD30 is around 5) for a significant increase in power and torque according to the dyno testing done as part of the fitment. In case you (or anybody else is interested), the max torque went from 335.7 @ 72KPH to 428.3 @ 64KPH and the power went from 76.5KW @ 112KPH to 93.2KW @ 104KPH.
Overall a great (though subtle in a lot of ways) improvement and I have no hesitation in recommending it. I also have no hesitation in recommending the people who did the work for me, being Diesel-Tec in Lilydale, Melbourne. Andrew and the guys out there did what they said they would, when they said they would, and kept me advised of any variations from the original plans.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Jim.

Thanks Jim,

I am at the crossroads wether to update or modify the existing unit.
The improved numbers look great,I found pulling a fully loaded camper trailer plus tinnie and motor that the patrol was a tad under powered and would not hold top gear most of the time. Sounds like a solution.

TD
