all i want is to find out about how to increase the axles legal weight, but can't get a straight answer. called a very very large trailer parts supplier here in
Adelaide today to find out what i need to replace. after telling him what size axle i have (45mm square) he tells me it is rated at 1250kg, i tell him that's not right, the plate states 1600kg max axle weight. he tells me noway and that's not what a 45mm axle is rated at. so now I'm all worried. i ring al-ko in
Melbourne who supplied the axle and brake setup, they are adamant that the 45mm axle is rated at 1600kg. al-ko state that a 50mm axle is rated at 2000kg with 12" electric brakes but the trailer company state it is only rated at 1700kg with 12" elec/brakes. where to now? its got me stuffed.

Shane,
Give John a call at Specialised Vehicles he is very knowledgable in regards to this, even though he does vehicle mods.
John Burke Contact details
I'm going to get John to do my conversion when I finally get a 100 Series
Cheers Kev

I would go straight to the caravan manufacturer to ascertain what are the correct figures for your size van.
A google search may turn this up too.
Am going through having the axle on my Jayco Poptop increased at the moment, and the first thing I had to do was get van weighed , off the ball.
Am getting the axle changed from 1450 approx to 1700 and the only modification needed is the
wheels which need to be changed from 5 stud to 5 stud.
Had I gone for a 2t axle major changes to
suspension, springs etc was necessary and cost very high.

Sorry, don't know the dimensions of axle , as I was only interested in the plate which shows load cap is 1450kg.

You just need a compliant authorised ADR trailer manufacturer to review the situation and write the correct numbers on (within reason).
The axle you have may be from a different supplier. It may be different in design somehow...
If you're down South, I may be able to refer you to someone who can help.

Don't know the relevant ratings, but most axles are solid whereas some are tubing, which in turn can vary in wall thickness. Jeff at RV Trailers in
Adelaide should be able to help, give him a ring.
