I am looking for good
camping spots along the above mention route (permanent
water holes would be good).
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Halfway between
Marree and
Birdsville is Mungerannie - a great spot to
camp along a wetland and the pub is pretty cool too:) Good amenities and fuel available.
Cheers.

I'll second that. The pub alone is worth the stop. Down at
the lagoon is a hot
water mineral spa - ok if you turn the pipe on early in the piece. Also you'll get to hear the
Dingo chorus (all night if you're lucky). If you're a tad nervous about that -
camp close to the (very excellent) ablution block.

Forgot to add the Caravan
Park at
Birdsville - directly opposite the garage/store. Plenty of room, good facilities. Visit the local
bakery.
cheers

We must be fussy, took one look at Mungerannie, had a beer & kept driving, we ended up at Clayton Wetlands which is an excellent spot & we have camped there twice since enjoying the hot spa each time.

Innaminka to
Bourke is a bit light on for
camp spots off the road (might find something on the
Warrego river bridge), but the
general store at
Wanaaring has a cute little caravan
park with a dunny and a shower and firewood at the fireplace. I think they charged $15 for the night for two of us, and a nice chat too.
Otherwise,
Fort Grey in the National
Park not far from Cameron's corner is pleasant, as
well as Dead Horse Gully near
Tibooburra, although a bit busier. You pay NP fees at both of them.
If you turn right about 50 km east of
Wanaaring and head for
Louth, there are heaps of
camp spots for free along the Darling just near and in
Louth. We enjoyed that one trip, and not too far to
Cobar next morning.
If you go
Bourke to
Cobar there are a couple of rest areas along the way, but near a busy highway. I don't know it, but May's Bend, (turn east 10 km north of the town and 8 km in) is in Camps 3. Could be ok if you want to see
Bourke.
Hope that helps.

You can't beat Coongie Lakes 100km north of
Innamincka. It is much less degraded than the common at
Innamincka, huge numbers and range of birds, barking owls, dingoes and other wild life.
No passing traffic.
Coopers creek flows into the lake through a densely thicketed silt jetty. The
creek before entry to the lake is broad, with islands (or at least it was when we were there a couple of years ago), great for floating around on an air- bed or for canoeing.

Clayton's
Waterhole only about 1/2 hr nth of
Marree but it was the pick of spots on the
Birdsville track. Artesian Spa, hot showers and flush
toilets. It doesn't get any better in my opinion.
Enjoy, Trevor.

I agree Claytons is great - not a particularly 'scenic' location - but the thermal
water and 'hot tub' are great.
Takes about 40 minute to fill
the tub and then you just climb in with a cold beer and watch the sunset or sunrise.
