I have been looking at some of the ice chest type eskies and wonder if anyone has tried the Waeco roto moulded ice boxes.

Not the fibreglass ones, the plastic type. They seem well made and more robust than the fibreglass but would like to hear if anyone has bought one, and if so, are they happy with it?

Can't comment on the Waeco, but check out the ebay seller of the techni-ice range.. (userID unbelievablycool )...

If you're patient, and don't get into a bidding war, these can be had far cheaper than anything else at retail level...

I have a 60L, & bought 1 ea for son & daughter, and they are the equal of anything on the market (and far better value)...
Each of these came with a 18L esky, & umpteen dozen techni-ice sheets, for under $100 delivered to my door.. Beat that!! ;-))

Yeah, I have seen these and the odd one goes for a song. Some people really can get carried away.

I had wondered what the quality of these was like, so thanks for the tip.

A 200Lt plus 18Lt and two dozen ice thingies went for about $150 last night. Bigger than I want but there are always heaps on offer.

Cheers

Hi, I can't give you any specific information on the Waeco, but they have obviously seen a need in the market to move into the plastic type esky.

When I was in the market to buy one Waeco only made the fibreglass model.

After making my enquiries I went with an Evakool Fibreglass esky. The reason I went for fibreglass over plastic is that fibreglass is easy to clean and won't hold odours.

Of course if you are looking for robust then plastic is the answer.

My brother in law runs a party hire business and they use the orange tropical boxes, not sure of their brand but they sell them at Repco, and he finds them to work well for the customers and they don't suffer much damage.

Hope that helps some answer some of your questions.

Col88, I have two Techni Ice boxes, 60 lts each. I bought one and after a week away bought a second. Our camping buddies have an 80lt Evakool and it may be a touch more efficient. We both still had ice left over at the end of a week, so, maybe two weeks away would show a difference. After 3 years, his has a few cracks in the fibreglass, mine has a few minor scratches. The Techni Ice boxes have a liner inside and I have not noticed any smells lingering - including fish. I put dry ice in one for freezing and block or party ice in the other as a fridge. Each evening I put the Techni Ice sheets in the one with dry ice to refreeze them. This helps the block/party ice last longer. I used to take a Chescold 3 way fridge, but don't bother any more. I just take the two ice boxes. Hope this helps.
