Anybody out there suggest the problem,I have an oil leak from front right hand side of the motor. It runs down near the air-conditioner mounting bracket but I cannot see wear it is coming from from the top. Very crowded there and hard to get at without major surgery.
It has only happened since being serviced at Kunnunara and overfilled by 2ltrs.
Thanks
TD

It might be the drain for the engine oil filter, it hangs right down near the a/c compressor (not cleaned up after servicing).

Hay,
I have the same problem on my Patrol. Because it's still under warranty I will be having the problem fixed soon. Will let you know what they say caused it when I get it back.

T.D.
I've been down this track, it is a bit of major therapy, the oil leak is sometimes caused by overtightening of the plug that is in the area, deforms the casing, hence a leak. People think that the leak is coming from the plug so they tighten it and make things worse, I did this and so did Nissan when I bought the vehicle and took it back to them under warranty to fix the oil leak.
I took the front cover off the engine, if you've got time and some technical competence you could tackle it. I used the Toyota black silicon compound, worked a treat, I have a slight dampness around the same area now after 15k klms but nothing serious, I'm not rushing back in to do it again. The only issue with the compound is you have to assemble and tighten the cover within around 8 minutes. If your
well organised and have all the different bolt lengths organised it's possible. I got a smaller torque wrench as
well to make sure I got all the tensions just right.
There is no quick way to fix this or any simple way of not taking half the engine apart to fix it. After I had the quote from Nissan to fix the leak doing what I asked them to do I decided to have a go myself.
Good luck and don't forget to buy a new crankshaft oil seal, the crankshft nut is flippin tight, be warned.

Sounds like you are on to the problem,I have printed off your suggestion and will give to my friendly Repco man as my vehicle is 2002 model and has 113,000klms on the clock. No help from Nissan
Thanks

Hi TD sorry cant help you with your problem but thought I would let you know I also had a problem with getting a service done at
Kununurra not only did they overfill the oil by about 2ltrs in my 80 series but they also tightened the sump plug on my transfer case to tight and 50k out of
Tennant creek on my way home the housing cracked and dropped all the oil.
Spent the next 2 weeks in
Tennant creek waiting for the parts to be couriered in.
