Does anyone use the 5W OMDI handheld UHF? They're on ebay for <$200 (and Gotools I think) and appear to be a good unit according to some of the comms guys on other forums.
I'm looking at using a 5w handheld but installing a permanent aerial and power in the 4by because to me they are more versatile then a permanently installed unit plus I run a Suzi GV and Troopy and want to easily transfer between the two.

they are good as a uhf cb, they have a ear plug and mike like a mobile phone that i don't like, but work
well, note they say that they will cover 450 - 480 MHz i think but only cam programs cb, should pay around $170.00

Hi Ben, check if the unit has a socket for external power and if the antenna connection is BNC or some other type that you can get plugs for. Many handhelds today do not have external power connections and have antenna connections that are unable to to be connected easily to other antennas. Also handheld speakers are hard to hear in a vehicle.

Have had an OMDI 5watt hand held for a few days now and it's all I expected. Mainly listen to truckies channel for road info and range is excellent. Do a lot of travel from Bris to Nth and South Coasts. No extras - just use hand held sitting on the
seat in the ute.
