Does anyone know if you can get across to the Stuart Hwy travelling nearly directly West. I have been looking at my maps and I can see tracks out from
Hawker to Neuroodla but want to know is there anything that would take me acroos to the Stuart around
Bookaloo.
I am trying to save going all the way down to Pt
Augusta and then back up..

Tx Skippy,
I have all that mate, I was hoping to be able to travel south from Neuroodla along the old train line track and when I get to Neuroodla turn West towards the Stuart Hwy.
Bookaloo is a siding on the W.A. Train line alongside the Stuart Hwy approx 70 k's above Pt
Augusta. I know I would have to loop down under
Lake Torrens a bit, but I was just hoping there was a track out there somewhere.

The answer is No.
You may be able to get there via station tracks(not marked on regular maps) but the roads you are talking about are rarely used. I had to rescue a mate out there earlier in the year when he got bogged in a pond.
Cheers

TX Willem,
I guess I will go back to plan "A" and do it in reverse. going up and across to Mt Barry and then into
the Painted Desert.
Wouldn't want to ask for a recovery, Uncle Des wouldn't let me hear the end of it. LOL

My father circumnavigated
Lake Torrens about 40 odd years ago. And as a lad i crossed the bottom end of
Lake Torrens with him.
There a two ways.
1. via Burt's Crossing from North Hole Dam to Hesso.
2. via Harris Crossing from North Hole Dam to about 12 km south of Hesso (pretty rough at the end)
These are old station tracks so...
I remember having to stand on the roof of a Green Yota Shorty to help find our way through the 2 meter plus grass.

Looking at some maps now I think it might have been Swinden Crossing which via a circuitous route will get you to
Bookaloo.
At least one of the trips we did was this way because I remeber the lake stretching out to the north. This was after crawling around in some old mines on the way . About 1 to 1.5 metres high and about 150 metres into a
hill. I think these where called the Sweet Nell Mines. I'm hoping my memory is correct.
