Oh, now I get it. He wants to know what will happen if he fits a larger exhaust to his turbo.

Might help to know what sort of engine and vehicle it is fitted to. Whether it is auto or manual, etc

I would have said I have a blah vehicle with a blah engine and it has a DTS turbo fitted, etc, etc...

Its all how you structure the question as to what answer you get.

Many Thanks First use of this site so excuse the entry. I have a 1999 100 series Poverty Pack Manual running a Dynamic Turbo Systems (now MTQ) Uni Filter going in but only the Standard toyota Exhaust coming out. I have been told that a 3"system will increase power and slightly give better economy. I am wondering if someone has figures so I can put a case to the Financial Controller

Hi Sherbob,

I don't know about the cruiser's but the 4.2 Patrol's have a restrictive "dump pipe" at the exhaust side of the turbo and if the cruiser is similar it would be adviseable to get a larger ID dump pipe as well as the 3" exhaust.

Just on a side note, the uni filter is best left for on road use. I had/have (now in the shed) a K&N and it was clogged in no time in the dirt. Got sick of rinsing it out so I have gone back to the genuine paper job.

Cheers Trevor.

PS: Worth the bob for the exhaust mods in my opinion.

I have asked at a couple of shops and they thoroughly recommend using a 3" exhaust over the 2.5" that comes standard with most kits. Of course they are trying to sell things so I am unsure and would like to hear of people that have compared the two in real world driving.

Based on the way turbochargers work, the more free-flowing the exhaust the better the turbo will spool up, so your power will come on earlier with a less restrictive exhaust. The actual benefits will be based around how restrictive it is currently.

Sherbob, I have just recently fitted a 3" mandrel bent exhaust with a 3.5" dump pipe to my 06 TD4.2 and can thoroughly recommend them. Haven't seen much difference in fuel economy but the power output is definitely noticeable. Mine was fitted by Beaudesert exhausts in Qld, but they freight all over the world. I was going to put a chip on the vehicle to improve performance but don't believe it is required after the exhaust. Hope this helps with the financial controller.

G'day Rob, it is pretty easy to get a 4.2 tuned up but can't be chipped as it is an old technology engine. You are right with the Beaudesert Exhaust, I got a 16% lower 0-100kph acceleration time.

Sherbob,

I put in a 3" mandrel bent exhaust in the TD100 after I damaged the original and found it improved mid range performance.

i also used a 3"mandrel from beaudesert exhaust and found midrange improved but installing a d-tronic rounded it out nicely.can now spin front wheels when boost kicks in on greasy rds or on slow corners, hahaha cheers Paul

TD100

Yep. I also put in a D'tronic and have come to the same conclusion with much improved low end performance.
I believe I have also got a marginal improvement in fuel consumption on outback touring.
