This unit is 18months old and was cycling at one and a half minutes on and two and a half minutes off. I took it to the agent here, only one in town, and it came back just the same after some supposed adjustments.
Back it went and after two new cooling units being fitted, both reported to be faulty and doing the same thing, a third new unit was fitted. It is home again and is now cycling at two and a half minutes off and six minutes on.
The temperature here is in the low thirties during the day. The fridge is test running in a
well ventilated garage.
Can anybody with this type of unit advise of how their unit operates and is there any fix for this?
Thanks.

Ades,
first question, what temperature is the fridge running at ???
both the turn 'on' temp and also turn 'off' temps
Is your "problem" only with the short run time, or is the fridge not getting cold enough ?

Yeah I should of thought of that. The freezer is at minus 12 and floor temp at 2 degrees and is fairly constant. I feel that the run time versus off time will kill the battery and probably should be better but I am open to correction.

Start up voltages for 12v fridges are harder on batteries than the run voltage, but if you can extend the 'off' time with-out loosing temp that would eliminate most of the problem.
Assertain the on and off temperatures and that will tell you the fix method.

to add,
I would suggest that the fridge is running constantly trying to maintain the cryogenic temperature of -12. Try running the freezer at around -3 and see what the difference is.
