I have just put a deposit down on a 2003 Prado GXL auto petrol with 118000kms on the clock vehicle is in immaculate condition with all
services done buy Toyota, cost was $34k. Price is not the issue, but I am wondering has it done too many km's? I suppose I am more concerned how many kms has it got left in it? Yes I have done research found all good stuff but you spend a lot of money you just have to think. Yeah I traded my Kluger so I guess I am on a winner already. I only wish I posted this thread before I put the deposit down. Have got a cool of clause, anyway all comments both good and bad are most welcome. Cheers to all.

4be,
Its a toyota mate and its reputation will be to your advantage.
By modern day standards its very low mileage.
Have heard of them doing over 400,000 without being touched.
Get out there and enjoy it.
Cheers Pesty

4BE,
118ks as long as the maintenance history is true should be no dramas. Our petrol 80 has done 311ks now, starting to do various repairs but nothing major.
Good luck
Greg

Hello 4be, what engine is in it, very capable vehicle it just needs some ground clearance in the front for of roading.
Imsure or Hilux has the same front end as your Prado and in standered trim they are to low.
And as pesty said "Its a Toyota".

Good engine, with standard
suspension the can go almost anywhere.
The back is good but because the the front is low, a 25-50 mm lift will do wounder and and make it as good as anything else out there.
For anyone with a Prado this is not an insult or saying the Prado is no good, it's just a fact with modern vehcles and you can turn something very good to fantastic.
There was alot of comments about the Hilux we have re the
suspension, sure it went everywhere with ease and we thought no differant, but buy raising it it made it so much better, the Prado has the same front end as our Hilux.
The
suspension is not a urgent thing but with the age of the vehicle and if it's got a bull bar it may be a thing to keep in the back of your mind for the future.
Regards Richard

Compare it to this one
2003 Prado at Pickles Auctions
for the extra $9000k you will have a full service history and less kms. IMO auction prices are about $10k below the normal price as
well.
Cheers Kev

4be
Irrespective of what others say, this is a very good car. I'm on my second (current) model now.
My only criticism relates to the plastic body surrounds, which in my case are continually being damaged (and expensive to replace).
Other than that, I've never had a single problem with the Prado (Kaymar are bringing out a rear steel bar in the first quarter of 2008).
The car has also copped a bit of comment re
suspension. In my experience this is ill informed nonsense.
My first Prado went though some of the toughest country in Australia on standard
suspension and never had a failure.
The price sounds about right, so go for it.
PS Take off those silly side steps.
Regards
Kim

Thank you very much for the input, unfortunitly the side steps have to stay as it makes it easier for my five year old daughter to get in and out.

Mate that's the second comment like that you have posted recently. If you want to be like that go to another site, we don't appreciate that here. Everyone buys what suits THEM not what YOU feel they should have.
If you can't make constructive comments, then don't say anything. 4be is after usefull
feedback not brand bashing.

Hi 4be, just
check around the hinges on the rear door top and bottom ,they actually crack around them due to the weight of the door, they were modified on the 04 series 2 model (which they dont advertise). It is a known problem by Toyota and will be replaced if needed. They actually replace the whole rear door which obviously also needs painting. There is sort of three upgrades in this model. The first with this problem, then did an upgrade to iron out the issue, then the next upgrade was with the 5 speed auto where as yours has the 4 speed auto but have never heard of either having any problems with the auto. They have a sh@t load of power 179kw's if Im correct, this hasnt been changed in any of the models that Im aware of. My mate has 04 model and goes like the clappers and not bad on the fuel obviously like anything running petrol the more the right boot goes down the more juice. That is a bit high in the klms department for age based on the average and there are others about with lower klms for the same $$$ but maybe havnt been sericed like your one and not as tidy, my mate paid 38k for his 10/04 model but only had 32k on it so still like new. When he was looking we did see some around the same price you have mentioned but most were around the 70/80 k on the clock some higher like yours or even more but very neglected, no servicing and more hits then elvis presley. My prado is bit higher then I would have liked but bought also on condition and servicing but only do 20k to and from work 3 days a week (take the wifes car the other 2) so it is good for when we do longer distance travelling, it will work out to an average by the time we go to sell it which I have been told by the boss WONT be for a while. If your happy with it and has been serviced as you say and is in top nick go for it and enjoy. You will also hear a slight fluttering noise under heavy acceleration coming from engine bay (sounds like an exhaust leak only hear it with window down JUST) dont worry thats normal even on the latest models. Enjoy Regards Steve M
