Looking for info/experiences/stories about any 4wd'ers at Cooloola National park. Tho I suspect many people went home. I live in Brisbane and love the severe whether and rain! I live in brisbane and drove up early saterday morning for a look and found the noosa river had totally flooded out the barges at tewantin so couldnt get to noosa north shore.
I was wondering also if the Freshwater Lake at Freshwater camping grounds has now got water in it? They had almost 800mm rain up that way in 24hours!! Surely that lake has some water in it now?

I was going to drive up to rainbow beach and back down to the lake just for a look and the roads were all closed due to flooding. so didnt even try.
Had a bit of a look around Noosa and tewantin, boreen point and John's landing.
Found many people camping in John's landing who hadnt even woken up yet and water was lapping at the bottom of their tents!

cheers

You were pretty keen driving around with all that water. I saw the Boreen Point camping area on tv last night & all you could see was the tops of caravans & tarps.

The locals were complaining about sightseers creating waves as they drove around, causing more damage to their property. SES and Police always ask people to stay away unless there is a real reason to go into an afected area. I guess you can justify your actions.

Mikee5 , you got it in 1 , phoned an old mate last night to see how the situation was , they live on 10acres backing onto the lake with their front drive being the tewantin /borreen point rd, all the damage caused to his property has been caused by NOT the flooding but by the bleep s who want to look ,

Yes I was there to observe common sense and I did not drive fast thru the water and create wake. I saw some idiot in a red hilux at noosaville do it, pushing water into the shops.
I was also there to help, some freinds living at doonan needed help but when we got there they were ok, I ended up helping some guy who was stranded in the bush near John's landing with a flat battery in a rocky diesel, water all around him. I drove into the water and jump started him and got his vehicle out.

I understand the problems sightseers create and as I was one of them really...i observed common sense in a big way so I wouldnt bleep anyone off.

Just seen the 6 o'clock news. SES crews diverted from their job of helping flood victims to rescue a sight seeing four wheel driver (from Deception Bay) who drowned his vehicle and almost himself.

Just adding to that,The white turbo 80 series was washed off a bridge(that had been closed) into the Mary river, just out of Tairo. At first the vehicle only had one wheel dislodged but the river rose, eventually washing the Cruiser completly down stream and taking the owner(who was out of the vehicle)with it, forcing the SES into a search and rescue as the driver had been taken downstream.
He was found one hour later suffering from hypertherma,Police have stated he will be facing charges.
This is what I read in todays local paper(front page, fraser coast)and, I think, will proberbly lose his insurance, not a nice sunday drive.
