Fellas,
I bought a 20 amp regulator from Jaycar yesterday. Hooked it up today and found that it switched from yellow no charge state to red charge state every 5 seconds or so until it brought the voltage up to about 14.3 volts.
I found this alittle strange - is this normal? I then loaded the battery, the voltage dropped and the process continued,
Anyone have any knowledge of or experience with this regulator,
Cheers in beers,
Mark

Hi Mark
Is it the Super Solar Regulator?
If so a 20 min cycle is to be expected, did it continue to switch after it reached full charge.
Regards

Mark if this is the regulator you bought you have a problem because it totally DISCONNECTS the solar panel from the battery and does NOT REGULATE the current going to the battery as almost every other decent solar regs does, but they also cost about $200 more.
The power is either on or it's off, no trickle or boost etc, 3 x stage system here, just the direct power from the panel in full.
""20-Amp 12V Super Solar Panel Regulator
With an massive 20 amp current handling, this SWITCHMODE solar panel generator is lightweight, easy to install and does not require a heatsink. It installs easily and features automatic operation, LED power indication and boasts an efficiency up to 99.2% @ 20 amps. Not only does the regulator switch the solar panel IN and OUT depending on the battery voltage, the regulator will disconnect the solar panel after approx 20 minutes at night fall to prevent any losses into the panel overnight""
If it was
mine I would want a refund and buy a 3 x stage reg, not a direct supply on/off reg as the battery requires heavy boost charge occasionally and then it requires a trickle charge more often.
