Hadn't used the gennie for a few months, so thought I'd better fire it up and make sure all is okay. Started 1st yank on the cord and settled down to it's usual low hum after a minute or so.

Thought I'd put a bit of a load on it and plugged the 3 pin cord that powers my work bench (4 x 4' flouros, 3 x 100w incandesent plus other tools as I need them). Even the lights made the Yammie suffer!!! hmmmmm????

Disconeected the work-bench cable and whacked the multimeter into the 240v outlet......hmmmmm again; only showing 225v.

Just wondering if this is enough AC volts to run normal "stuff" or should I be getting it checked out?

Cheers

Roachie

Roachie, is it an inverter type or just the normal type, if it an inverter type there could be something wrong but if it's the normal type the voltage is OK.

Try taking the fuel cap of it and try it again, we have the Honda EU20's that we use in our service vans and if the fuel cap is turned off (not the fuel tap ) it causes a vacuum in the petrol tank and under load it nearly stops.

Hasn't this one got any warning bells or lights on it .

You should of got a Honda...LOL

You could proberly make it a hybrid like the truck and put a Honda motor in it....

Thanks Richard. Yes it's a 1kva Inverter type and it has a air-release tap on top of the fuel cap. I had an issue previously which turned out to be that "somebody" had neglected to undo said tap, resulting in the motor struggling to maintain revs, even with no load. However, on this occasion yesterday, it was revving okay, just not putting out as many volts as I would have expected.

(BTW: I wish I'd bought a Honda now too).......

Unless your multimeter is out you may have a problem, The good inverter types are very stable.

They say they are more stable and cleaner then power companys.

Has it got a auto throttle switch, it sound like there could be something wrong.

have you tried clean fuel.

Looks like you will just have to use a 1245 kilometer extension cord and try not to get it court on anything.

Yeah we looked at the Yamaha but being blue didn't suit Lyns lipstick on the day so the Honda it is.

Try running it with in the economy off mode, the revs should go up then flick the economy switch back on.

I got a current model Yammy 1000 myself. Works great so far

To both Richards,
(BTW: I wish I'd bought a Honda now too)....... Thats Roachies quote. He says the same thing everytime the Nissan has a problem. "(BTW: I wish I'd bought a Toyota now too)....... "
which happens very frequently now.

Roachie

If it's surging under a load, the first thing I'd do is replace the fuel. If that doesn't work you may have a throttle cable problem.

I've had this brand of generator for more years than I can remember, and only replaced it recently with a 2kva Honda.

Take it in for a service before it becomes a problem in the bush.

Regards

Kim

Hot Dog! Roachie

You finally discovered the Toads revenge.

He stole your volts (LOL)

On second thoughts I think he may have stolen the Yama out of your Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Trevoorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! return that Yama thing you told me you 'found' to Roachie this instant. (ROFLMAO)

G'day Roachie,
you mention the 4 fluoros on the workbench. Have these been modified for phase correction for use on a generator load? If not they could be loading it down.

Try again without the fluoro's and just a few incandescants or a floodlight or 3.

All modern electrical 'thingies' are full of magic and puzzlement - the voltage when its doing nothing 'may' be immaterial - far as I know (or thought I did :-o) we should be wanting to know what its doing when its working. Voltage under load is the go- should be less than your reading - might even be higher but - maybe 225 is within spec. ?
Hmm.... had better give my little blue beast a run too - apart from a vapour lock once in high heat levels, its been great to date.

Ok - so now I have a look in my Yamaha manual printed for every language that ever existed on the planet - 230 is the rated AC - your meter may be a whisker off ? Re the running - I just clean the air filter and change the oil, jyust about whenever I think of it - so little oil involved, it can afford to run on virtually new stuff most of the time. As for fuel, the only filter seems to be the one in the tank neck. Onward and upward !

Roachie is thinking......DAMM...looks like Im not getting the Honda now!

So that is why they are cheaper then the Honda....you get 10 volts less.

Never checked the Honda, Im to scared to..it might be 220volt.

dont worry about the volts...
its seems to be about the same..maybe even probably better than ETSA ...lowest voltage i have seen in adelaide during a heatwave when a clients aircon wouldnt work was 210v...and they said it was ok...hahaha!!

at 225v you should try selling some back to them

seriously i'd get it checked out..just having lights as the load shouldnt do that...assuming it was designed to do all you had hanging off it...ie it is a nominal 1kw or better

Funny you should ask this question!

I have two yammy 2400 inverter gens one done some work and the other about 10 mins.

I set the new one up for a mate to take to Perth tomorrow so fueled it and gave it a run and decided to check voltage and as you say about 225 tried other one also 225 and with varying loads 213 to 225 volts.

Was going to ask the same question but you beat me to it.

Maybe someone will check a Honda?

cheer's

wafarmer.
