I guess the good people that are up there or are planning to go can still do something "a la Henley-on-Todd". Why waste the opportunity to have a great time and a party?!

Flu halts Birdsville Races
August 28, 2007 - 10:18AM

Queensland's famous Birdsville Races will not go ahead this weekend because of the equine influenza crisis, the State Government says.

It's believed to be the first time in their 125 year history that the races, held in the tiny outback Queensland town of Birsdville, have been cancelled.

"We've been trying everything we can to be able to have racing proceed at Birdsville this weekend, but unfortunately the risk has been assessed, based on the best advice from the veterinary surgeons ... (as) unacceptable," said Queensland Racing Minister Andrew Fraser.

"We need to make this decision, which is disappointing for everyone, because to take the risk and to risk an outbreak of the equine flu transferring across the thoroughbred racing industry would be devastating.

"So that means racing won't be occurring anywhere around Queensland, including Birdsville, this weekend."

Everything else is still going to be on but - just heard on the talking wireless - as mentioned above, the horses were only ever incidental to the process :-o) .... besides, what would they have done with a million hot dogs, the buns, the burgers, the beers, the bread, the snags ?

I'm off tomorrow in a party of 9 in 3 aircraft.

It's a shame about no horses racing, but I wasn't really planning on watching a cloud of dust moving around the track anyway.

Leaves more time for the partying..

WooHoo only one sleep to go.......
