I have driven past the place numerous times but today I had an excuse to stop over and have a chat with Dave Christie at
Wilmington, owner of the Toy
Shop and collector of Landrover(toys) and real ones. I wanted to talk about his device that pulls dents out of panels as I put a dint in the Nissan a time ago.
Dave has around 800 Landrover toys( the biggst collection in Australia) and about 30 Landrovers(large ones) in various states of either wrecking or rebuilding. He also specialises in WW2 Jeeps.
His toy collection includes Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox and Meccano. He also had a full scale train station etc.
Landrovers go back to as early as 1948.
A fascinating hobby and an interesting character. So remember to drop in on your way past.
Wilmington lies between
Broken Hill and
Port Augusta just before
Horrocks Pass.
Cheers

Old
Wilmington eh, the place of the Mt Remarkable Show, I was there in 1969 selling some gemstones I had cut and polished and made into Jewellry, Would like to see the collection, There is a place at Colo on the souther end of the
Putty Rd that has a few old LRs laying about just getting full of spiders, Have you had a look in that yard at
Terowie, not far from your place , once again some old vintage cars rusting away, They should give them to someone who will restore them

Yer Doug,
A few people have tried to get cars from that rust yard at
Terowie but there must be something in the psyche of collectors that they never want to part with anything. MY neighbour across the the laneway has reputedly up to 100 cars stashed around town(mainly Holdens) but trying to get anything from him is like trying to get blood out of a stone. He will not sell anything and you can't borrow anything from him either.
