Dear All,

I have a 2004 Patrol.
In recent weeks the turning circle has become smaller.
I'm not imagining it as my wife is complaining fiercely.
Where I used to be able to turn easily is now taking at least two turns.
I have checked the power steering pimp and fluid levels and hoses and nothing's leaking. I know that this wouldn't effect the turning circle anyway but what should I be looking for or at least talking about when I take it in for a service?

Good question I have noticed it mainly on the right hand turn.
I think that it's more pronounced that way but I honestly don't know my wife seems to think mainly worse turning right.

Mal,
You have a power steering pimp???? Hmmmm.....

Anyway, have a look at the swivel housings, and on each you'll see a stop bolt which should be held in place by a lock-nut.. you can see 'em (from the front) without getting under the vehicle...
The one which controls the RH turn is the one on the LH swivel housing...

My guess is that the lock-nut has come loose, and the stop-bolt is working it's way out, thereby making the turning circle larger...

If this is the case, I'd be getting under there ASAP, and at least tighten that lock-nut before the whole thing falls out altogether. If this happens, it will allow the wheels to turn further than they should, and could damage the swivel housing internals (not to mention the tyre scrubbing)..

My GQ did this and it tore the steering damper mount off the drag link and stuffed the damper.

Mine actually went the other way. Turning circle got tighter, i thought it was christmas until I noticed the damper hanging under the car.

Go and check it now Mal, before it gets expensive.

One hub could be locked in if it is one direction.
