Have had the CD player fail after some rough roads. It does not play and is reluctant to eject without some persuasive thumping around the player area. Anybody else had this problem? Does anyone in the Adelaide area know of a reliable repairer or should the whole unit be replaced? Looked at a couple of radio/tape player/cd player units as a full replacement today at $400 - 600 plus fitting. All help appreciated.

Just a suggestion, if you are going to replace it, buy one with a USB port &/or SD card slot & use an MP3 player.
I did & never bother with CDs now.

I meant to say that you can also use just a USB thumb drive or put your files on an SD card as well.

Thanks for that. Have considered an MP3 player and just leaving things as they are. Just feed the MP3 throught a FM transmitter and use the radio for playing that.

I agree with Shaker, I changed my Rodeo player to a mp3 with usb and sd card, never put in a cd since, no moving parts to skip or jump. Mine was a cheapie $200 job from Starthfield "BOSS" I think the brand is. Thought about getting one that was "iPod" ready, but you still need the power adapter for the iPod. Double if you go the fm transmitter path.

just my thoughts

why on earth would you want to fix the crap std double din crapper??

Put that money towards something worth the effort... even single din and a pocket does come in handy...

I went with a MP3/WMA/DVD player Sony in mine.. love it...

I liked the BIG buttons on my "crap std double din crapper".

I had no trouble selecting a radio station and had less near misses than I do now with this stuoid, miniscule buttoned, which button do press next to get the CD to play thing that I bought last month to replace the "crap std double din crapper"!!

Plus it had short wave on it - great in the bush when I needed some news. I'm talking serious bush here and not that ":50 kms out of Melbourne pretend bush" ;)

Yes, there actually places in WA that one cannot get any sort of radio reception unless one has RFDS or short wave.

I replaced mine almost as soon as I got the car. I had a Kenwood stacker which I took out of the GQ.

The vacant space was then filled with the UHF. Nice and neat UHF is easy for me or front seat passenger to operate.

Bilbo,

The Kenwood is very simple to use. The buttons for skipping through CD's and tracks are big enough and prominent so you don't miss them. They are also far enough away from the others so you don't accidently hit the wrong one. This was one of the points the salesman made when he was talking me into the Kenwood in preference to some cheaper brands.

Duncs, I donlt know how old you are, but I'm 60.

Wait until ya get a bit older and yer close up eyesight is failing and ya need bifocals. Then come back and tell me how good is yer single din Kenwood with the small buttons.

It comes to us all in time,,,,,,,,,,

Your probably right Bilbo. I have been contemplating a visit to the optometrist recently.

Having said that I don't read the buttons very often. I tend to operate the thing by braille most of the time.

Aren't the other senses supposed to improve when one fails.

Within two hours of getting the GU home from the dealer, I had my Pioneer (mp3, wma, wav) head unit out of my old Hilux and installed in the Nissy.

It was the first and one of the best mod's i've done to the truck.

why not fit one of each
a cd player up the top half
& the tape player on the bottom half
it works well & you get to radios

If you use a CD player on rough roads it will fail eventually. irrelavent wether it is fixed or replaced. Most just are not designed to operate in those conditions. Have spoken to any number of people with stuffed CD players, it is a common problem. You can get it fixed but it will just happen again. Solid state MP3 player is probably the best. Some have very simple controls ie play skip stop.

Hi Longtooth, I'm with the others here - if you can find a replacement deck - but with buttons to your liking - with an AUX (line in) input or similar, you will probably be better off. I noticed you mentioned that you were considering the FM transmitter option - myself, I'd give it a miss as I've yet to come across one that works well - there always seems to be a bit of static on the ones I have seen/tried. And not just in my car either.

I took one back to JB H-i-Fi and used the money to buy a (2nd from the) bottom of the range Pioneer CD/MP3/WMA/AUX-in deck for less than $150 plus $80 installed (lifetime warranty on the install).

I don't know if you have JB Hi-Fi in SA, but if you do they are worth checking out.
