Gday
Well another big milestone has come and gone. The poor old Nissan has clocked up 400.000 this very morning on the way to work. I suppose that now i will have to give it a wash and polish before the November trip to the Pirranees so that it looks nice.No , only joking about the wash and polish.....

Hi Benny,

Just wondering what the best Nissan motor is for the Patrol?

I would've thought a 4.2 non turbo diesel would be the way to go for economy and long life.

Does anyone have an opinion?

Cheers, Will

Gday Robin
I suppose it is more the way that it is driven and serviced. I almost did some work on the poor old thing the other day, but decided not to .
The mileage is the same with the camper on out on the highway as it is in town without the camper. 450 to a bottle of gas.100 k better than my brothers 4.2 on gas.

The best motor for the Patrol is the 2.8 TD6 intercooled from the GU..........I'm biased. In all truth the longest lasting motor would be either the non-turbo TD42 or straight petrol TB42, the turbo'd TD42 would be snapping right on thier heels IMHO.

G'day Muzbry

My ole GQ is ajust a short way behind yours with 345,000 on the clock plus 10% for speedo error...lol The diesel donk is till going strong with no oil usage despite me trying my utmost to cook the engine on one occasion. Will probably take another two years to achieve the milestone that yours is at. Yeah, and I gave mine a wash using the regulation bucket a week ago. It didn't know what hit it...lol

Cheers

G'Day

Well i'm a bit behind that one Muzbry. My 92 4.2 Diesel is about to turn 200,000 - just 800 to go.

We have to get away more I reckon so the truck can get out of the shed and us along with it.

Gday John R
Only for you old son, I gave mine a water pump in June and new timing belt.Thats about it with the poor old thing.
I am sorry to hear about your diff problem. Were the teeth off the crown wheel or the pinion? And is the front diff the same as the rear?
