Hello all, looking at buying a hand saw for the Hilux, is there a type that is better and what is a good brand.
Aftre something that is easy to use and will cut through 2 to 4 inch branches, don't want a large bow saw size.
What are the pro's and con's of the differant types.
Regards Richard

depends if the branches are dead or green.......pruning saw for green, woodsaw/timbersaw for dead IMO

I prefer the handsaws with an engine personaly. But if your determined to knock your self out you can get a gp saw which is like a really thick hacksaw blade with a handle, they are not super sharp or fast but hard enough that dead wood wont hurt them.

We want something that we can leave in the Hilux all the time, I would love a chain saw but no good if you run out of perol....to hard to use then.
Most of the time it will be cutting dead wood, but it also may be needed to cut green aswell.

If you're looking for a saw for the HiLux, just bring it here to my place....My little 115mm angle grinder isn't exactly a "saw", but I could make some pretty mean cuts in the Hilux for ya!!!!!

Yeah sounds good,we can do the Hiux with a diamond bladed angle grinder and then we can do the Navara's with my plasma cutter, the plasma cutter will cut upto 32mm thick material so it should be OK.
Oh thats right the Navara only have material upto 1mm thick.......silly me sorry got confused with the Hilux again.

Try small (can't remember which it is) either Bushmans or Bow saw, which you can purchase from Bunnings or other hardware stores for around $10, BUT, buy another blade making sure that the teeth are off set. The blades that come with them are crap.
I bought
mine for the hi lux, but now in the LS, so I under stand :):)

I carry a small bow saw and find it adequate for cutting wood for fires. Be aware that there are two types of blades ... one good for old dead timber and the other for green timber. If they are sharp and you have the correct blade fitted it is easy as ....
Got
mine from Bunnings for under $20.

The green timber blade looks pretty much like a normal saw blade .. with the teeth splayed out .. the other blade looks a bit like a "W".
Unfortunately I have just moved house and the saws are ....
well ... I am not sure where they are at present. If I can dig them up I will get you a pic. Alternatively, if you are near a hardware store they should be able to show you.

Richard, I have a foldup handsaw, that has three blades that fold back into the handle. Got it at the 4wd show. One blade is a hacksaw blade, the other is a bow saw blade and the third is a general saw blade. folds back into what wopuld be like a 32mm conduit about 500mm long, perfect for the 4b.
I have used the bow to cut small wood does it easy, and the hacksaw for a bush repair of a bent bullbar.
