80 Series Owners - Suspension Height???

i have just fitted a 2nd hand set of heavy duty coil springs to my 80 Series GXL. The new springs are lifted above standard but I have no idea how high it is so I can order the right length shock absorbers.

My car is sitting about 100mm higher than it was in the rear and about 40 higher than it was in the front and it looks quite good but I have no idea what lift the aftermarket springs were that I pulled out and how much they might have sagged over the years. I have sacrificed a bit of comfort as the rear is pretty stiff but I am hoping it will be perfect when it is loaded for a trip and has full fuel and water tanks etc.

Can I please ask a few owners of 80 series Landcruisers to measure the distance from the centre of the hub to the high point of the wheel arch on the fibrglass flare and tell me what the measurement is as well as what lift suspension they have installed? ie:
Rear 525mm = standard, Front 525mm = standard
Rear 625mm = 4" lift, Front 600mm = 3" lift

Any help you can give would be very appreciated.

Thanks,
Brett

Brett,

Front = 580mm with 50mm (2") lift

Rear = 600mm with 50mm (2") lift

I am running Blue Max 41 mm foam cell shocks - had them fitted about 2 weeks ago and they are going well - cheaper than most named brands.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Karl, you have been most helpful.

After the lift mine is sitting at 575mm - Front and 625mm - Rear. So it looks like I have about a 2" lift in the front and a 3" in the rear.

I will certainly check out the Blue Max shock absorbers as you are the 3rd person to recommend them to me.

Thanks again!

Brett,

No problem. Where do you live - if you are in Perth I would highly reccomend Coastal 4 x 4 at 55 Solomon Rd, Jandekot. They did my shockies the other day - excellent work and very good guys to deal with.

If you are also interested there is a new website for 80 Series it is www.offroad80s.com - it's only new but is going well.

Brett , I put a 2' lift in the 92 80series GXL turbo diesel auto in Febuary this year , rear carries outback drawer system with fridge permanently in vehicle + Kaymar rear wheel carrier so carrying 2 spares , front has ally bullbar ,drive lights + 2x 80amp AGM batts under bonnet [ not exactly light in weight ]

front = 585mm
rear = 610mm

Blue Max springs F + R

Blue Max 41mm shocks F + R

Thanks for the info Karl but I don't think I could be any further from Perth if I tried. I am in Bundaberg Queensland.
I just had a quick look at the new website, looks great and knowing me it will just mean I am up another half hour later every night. By the time I work through all my regualr sites it is usually about 11pm before I get to bed.

Thanks Axel, That is another recommendation for Blue Max. I have not heard one negative thing about them.
It sounds like your rig is carrying about the same weight as I expect mine to be carrying permanently.
I have twin batteries, alloy bullbar with lights, drawer system with fridge always in vehicle. I don't have the kaymar carrier but I do have a full length steel ARB roof rack which has a bit of weight to it. Your rear springs must be pretty heavy duty to have all of that weight and still be sitting up at 610mm?
Thanks for going to the effort of measuring the height for me as it really is difficult to find the standard height measurements. It really has helped me go to the suspension shop tomorrow armed with a bit of knowledge on what length shockies I might need.

Regards,
Brett
