Hi everyone )
My stereo in the patrol skips on cds and also sounds really crap, I thought instead of repairing it I would put a new mp3 one in.
Thing is its a large size to replace in the patrol and was wondering who can suggest some nice stereos that will fit in
the spot where the patrol one gos? Also speakers/amps and full packages as our speakers sound buggered.
Do the new mp3/cd players skip over bumps?
Any suggestions or ideas muchly appreciated!
regards
Justin

Yep, no worries Truckster. Did you change the speakers in your patrol? I was going to get the pros to change the stuff over but I was thinking of doing it myself. Is it hard to take the existing patrol stereo out? Do you have to take the whole dash out to put the new wiring in etc? Did you have to put a new amp in?
cheers

I brought a Pioneer package about 18months ago, head unit and four 6" speakers, cost me $450 plus fitting. Because your new unit will only be half the size of the orginal GU CD/tape player, you can either fit a pocket in there (cost about $20), or I had the guys fit my
UHF radio in there. Its an older electrophone that fitted nicely. At the time I probably could have fitted it my self but for $200 they fitted the stereo, speakers and UHF so I cheated and got the pro's to do it. I am now considering fitting some 6"x9" speakers in the back on pods because I love my music.
Regards
Snowy

Hi,
I replaced the radio with radio that is MP3 CD compatible that also accepted a USB memory stick. Great for all MP3 music etc. Used the lower part of the space to mount the UHF.
All works
well.

Yeah, good thing about usb flash drives and others is that they will withstand force of about 10g, the car would be destroyed before you got to 10g so no skipping there.
Do you think your USB thing could take a multi card reader and use CF, SD or memory stick?

Yes Nick.
There is a SD card slot as
well. This gives me many hours of music.

Hmmmm, so you can put a 1 gig usb flash drive on it? Thats pretty damn cool, who needs a cd then, I was thinking of filling the cd with mp3s, but flash drive would be even better!

G'day Justin
Just did this on the weekend, I got a Pioneer DEH-2950MP, not one skip over bumps on tracks on sunday, I put some 6" speakers in the front doors, simple swap over with the old ones no mods needed. A 250watt amp under the Drivers
seat and some 6"x9"s in the back. Mounted in the side panles where the pockets are. Didn't feel the need to replace the one's in the rear doors so just disconnected them. Makes a nice sound with out being too over the top. I put one of the pockets in to fill
the gap and put my uhf in that.
With self install its only cost around $250 all up
Cheers Stefan

You might get some idea from my setup
Two Radio's , plus the use of the USB and Flash drives eliminate the need for CDs, No matter how rough the track it will NOT skip, it cannot skip, and the reproduction from a good set of speakers is superb,
Doug

Justin,
I recently install a clarion MAX676VD double din stereo. Was a tad exey but is a corker, not a doof doof box but a v. good stereo. Plugin in the 80g ipod and the units touch screen gives you in car access to your entire music collection / playlists etc that are maintained in the house PC which drive the stereo.
I installed 2 rear
barn door speakers as we like music and when
camping that is where all the time is spent.
Paul.
p.s. a skinny stereo is a single 'DIN' bay and the LC and patrol have a double DIN stereo bay.

Thanks Paul, I remember the terminology now! I think I will get a double din, they look nice, yours looks very cool, super pricey.

Justin, I have just put in a JVC 635 in my LC.
USB plug, so my music on one stick, wifes music on another and lots of other stuff on a 3rd stick. No more jumping tracks and I have lots of space in the console now.
The radio pulls in lots of stations too, best radio I have had.
It will play CD's but I haven't tried it. Happy with the memory stick. About $240.
Quality of the sound? Suits me, my LC hasn't got the accoustics of the opera house so I can't see the sense in paying big bikkies for a music box for my car.
Not sure if Waylon
Jennings ever sang in the opera house anyway, so he's not out of place in my car.

you will find options of good double din radios extremely hard to come by..
as stated, a single din and a pocket would be better, or single and UHF..
