Hi Glenn,
I know that this is a bit of an overkill but there is an in line switch at DSE, see below,

Jaycar also has something similar but more suited for 12 V,

As a matter of interest what sort of Led Light Ribbon are you using ? I was thinking of something similar and have been watching some on e-bay, but the specs covering brightness and power consumption are few and far between.

Cheers,
Mal

Just be aware that the Jaycar switch is on the Negative side as I bought one to power a wireless camera reciever and it didnt turn it off as the unit was still getting the power and earthing thru another plug. I took it apart and rewired it to make it work correctly

Clipsal or HPM will have them at your local Bunnings or electrical wholesaler. They are made for 240V but will be fine for 12V. I'm pretty sure you can get them in black.

Switches?

Try Altronics at http://altronics.com.au/. Select from the menu on the left hand side of the screen. They are based in Perth but have branches over the eastern states. They do mail order service as well as a top quality catalogue. I get all my stuff from there.
