Rubber chicken
After checking the archives it seems quite a few people were purchasing these eskies and dry ice sheets. I am looking at buying a new ice box and would greatly appreciate any knowledge due to experience with these ice boxes, also are the dry ice sheets any good?
thanks

I bought a 40 Litre box on Ebay for $50 delivered, a much cheaper
option than the $150/$200 wanted by
camping shops. Leaves
conventional eskies for dead. Cant comment on the ice sheets as
I only used real ice as I had no way of refreeezing them....oldbaz.

The Ice sheets come in very handy. They do the job however I would argue they don't cool as
well as nice packed ice however they last longer . We have taken them away and they are still cooling 2-3 days later, after that they don't do much. I find them handy for those small occassions in a portable eski or cooler over the shoulder.. Being re-usable is handy and can be cut to size to fix the application.

A simple word of advice - don't touch them.
I recently purhased an 80 litre over the telephone after being assured that the walls were over 30 mm thick.
Arrived by courier and yes, the lid is over 30 mm thick but the rest of the box is about 10 mm.
That night I pressed a small LED torch against the inside walls of the box, The light passed right through the walls as a dull glow but in many
places a very
bright glow indicated that insulation did not even exist.
The ice sheets are simply a waste of space.
Two day ice box if you are lucky.

Stevo,
You sure it is a genuine Techni Ice ice box you are talking about? 10mm walls and bottom? Less that half an inch?
My Techni Ice ice box has 75mm lid and 40mm walls.
Perhaps you have a different product to
mine.

Stevo, I'd be giving them a call. They seem a good and reputable company to me. They market the commercial ice boxes as 5 to 16 days ice retention and with a 12 year warranty.
For the sake of a phone call, I'd be checking that what you have is what you bought and why the (very) thin walls and lid compared to others (like
mine).

Hi,
There are two types of Techni-Ice products, they are
1) Techni Ice
Roto Moulded Commercial Ice Boxes
2) Techni Ice Compact Range Cooler Boxes.
I have both.
The "Commercial" ice boxes have quite thick walls and are a heavy duty construction.
The Compact Coolers are built more like standard plastic eskys.
The Commercial ice box is more suited to
camping for a few days, where-as the Compact Cooler is more suited for packing a picnic lunch for the day.
Hope this helps,
Mal58

I bought a 60l on ebay the other day for $42 delivered with 6 ice sheets. Beats the
camping shops. I also have a 120l which i have had for 12mths which I am very happy with. I don't think the dry ice sheets work as good as ice though.

Great Ice box, one of the best in my view. Worth checking eBay as the company has them listed there all the time.
Mine has 75mm lid and 40mm sides and works a treat.
I also use the sheets and find them to be great, but we have a small freezer unit in our
camping fridge to refreeze them. Apart from the normal uses, we put 2 or three sheets in the esky when we go fishing to keep the catch cool. Works a treat.

I just checked the Techni Ice web site. They have two ice box/cooler products:
Techni Ice
Roto Moulded Commercial Ice Boxes (which I have)
Techni Ice Compact Range Cooler Boxes. This seems to be more like a normal 'Esky' with a recessed handle in the lid, come in smaller sizes and seem cheaper.
I have no experience with the cooler box, but believe the Ice Box is a great product.

Thanks for the replies guys, there is a big price diff between the techni ice and evakool etc, and was just wondering if I should spend the extra dollars or save a few if the products were same or similar.

If you check out eBay and buy
well there, you will seriously narrow
the gap. Also, with the Techni Ice ones, you get ice sheets with the ice box.
But Evakool and similar are good ice boxes too.
