Has anyone found a method of lowering the wind noise of a roof rack?
Mine is one of those oval tube aluminum models with the perspex sloping front panel.
I have it mounted so the slope is just past the slope of the screen.
A speeds around the 100kph mark the wind noise is pretty bad.
I know the best way is to remove it however I just purchased it for a specific trip.

I have a full length alloy rac and moving it back as far as practical helps. Michael

i had
mine almost level with the rear doors, no problem.
then i had to move it forward to your position for a reason and the noise is very noticable.
try moving it backwards.

the original plastic wind deflector often just fits on the top and bottom bar leaving a large gap between the roof and the rack,i nade a clear perspex deflector that goes to within half an inch of the roof and one inch higher than the rack....result...absolutely no noise at all.

If I slow down the followers get cranky. I reckon 100 is fast enough.

Ahhh, the perspex front wind deflector, useless in cross winds and when you load up the roof rack. Best advice I got from ARB when I got
mine fitted was not to bother with the deflector as they do nothing.
There is absolutely no way you can make a roof rack more aerodynamic and produce less noise.
The only way to stop the wind noise is to take the roof rack off or learn to live with it.
Took
mine off for a while as the car wouldn't fit in the garage. Put in on for a trip and left it on as I use it too much for other stuff. I travel the M1 between
Brisbane and the
Gold Coast with mainly easterly cross winds and you just learn to live with it and turn the radio up.

yeah.
Took it off and migrated to a trailer.
Much the same economy and more comfortable travelling.

Andrew, We already tow an 18ft van so a trailer is a bit difficult however I do agree with you.

Sounds silly but chuck something up there, nearly anything will do but seems to work.
Certainly does on my son's 100 series with ARB rack fitted.
