I just fitted a 2.5 '' exhaust and 1 sports muffler to my L/C and I cant notice a darn thing in performance and it even sounds the same but at least I can eliminate the theory that my exhaust is why my truck is running hot when towing the van , now all I have to do is find a pyrometer tomorrow and fit it before my test drive /TOW on Friday ...so is there anything wrong with VDO gauges as I'm going to look at a kit for $260 tomorrow ?? anyone care to comment ??
Regards J.B.

Nothing at all wrong with VDO. However, Thermogaurd also makes an excellent digital unit for about the same price. I have one and can recommend it. He also advertises on this site.
Cheers

tank for the breather pipe on the tappet cover to the turbo so I better get moving thanx again mate .

Hi Johnny,
I have recently had a VDO unit install on my LC 105 STD, planning on a turbo so I thought I'd understand the motor in factory state before the turbo goes on.
I am taking the boat down the clyde to
Batemans Bay on he W/E so will have an idea on towing in serious hills.
You don't mention wether you have a turbo. From my reading the recomend max temps are 500 if measured post turbo and 720 pre turbo.
I have found the the NA 1hz can easily exceed 720 without towing. 4th gear ~ 3krpm up a moderate
hill will see 720 c exceeded. It is a real eye opener. The only solution to over temping seeems to be to slow down.
I like the analogue dial on the VDO and went for it in preference to a digital display.
Paul.

I am pretty certain that you will have to give the vehicle a weeks running before you will notice any improvemets in performance, as the computer will have to re set it self re the exhaust system.
If you read up on the Hyclone, they tell you this also if fitting one.

Hi Chris , Yeah thats what I was thinking and besides that Im not the best test Pilot my wife is and she just called from work to say that she noticed a smother gear change and better take off so I will just have to take her word for it ?? and for the computer I really did not know that and Im just about to see a good mate that works at Toyota so I will be picking his brain on that one , thanx for the reply I really appreciate it .

John,
If you have a Safari turbo on your Landcruiser which you've stated above then there's a fair bet the engine is the 1HZ diesel.
If it's a 1HZ then you don't have a computer controlled engine, normal old fashioned mechanical injection.

Hi John,
yes I made a similar thing to Hyclone and fitted in the Landcruiser and also for my Son for his Subaru and we both noticed, after a week the difference in performace and like wise as your wife said, the gear changes are smoother and you don't get that run on effect.
Cheers
Chris

Hi again , yeah I picked up her car from her work and I think I can notice a bit of difference and I also bought a VDO gage and fitted 99% of it this arvo I kind of chickened out when it came to the sender unit and I'm a bit apprehensive about trying to undo a 17mm bolt on the dump pipe just after the Turbo incase it breaks as I am suppose to leave tomorrow morning but I'm thinking about seeing if anyone is open that might have a go at it because all this rushing and stressing will be in vein as it was the trip up to Morisset that was going to test the gauge with van in tow ?
OH
WELL Im just going to have to have a fish on
Stockton to get over it all LOL!!!

A 2.5" for a LC 100series, isn't that standard??
3" mandrel bend is the only exhaust that you should be fitting to a 100 series if you want better preformance.
