The Paj (2.8l mechanical injection diesel) didn't want to start this morning. Ended up clutch starting it. Advantage of living on the side of a
hill where the driveway slopes downhill :o).
So got me thinking, can you clutch start these modern manual diesels with electronically controlled fuel injection? You know, the gen II and gen III common rail?
Do you need the right voltage for everything to work?
All I needed was enough voltage to the fuel solenoid to turn it on, and a few revs to turn the fuel injection pump over, and I was away.

Mate! you have got to stop having these thoughts as you are killing brain cells in doing so.
Whats worse is that you have now caused me to do likewise. (ROFLMAO)
In answer to your question - I have no F****** idea/s what so ever

To stop the brain from hurting, buy an Auto. Then you know it won't roll start, and the mind relaxes....:)

I had a dead flat battery at Eildon
boat ramp and with the
water being so low I had plenty of
boat ramp to roll start on and no go. That was part of the reason why bought a manual! Fortunately I had a boat so i used that battery to get going. Next time an auto for me!

Thanks Leroy,
Got me thinking this morning that if I came across a common rail diesel 4wd in the middle of no where with a stuffed starter motor, would I be able to tow start it, even if it is manual!

If it has a stuffed starter motor , but a charged battery it should start. As you need
battery power to run the injectors I think.

Thanks - good to know.
Have a friend with a manual 3.5l petrol pajero, and it wouldn't clutch with a flat battery.
Suppose it depends on how voltage is left :o)
Sounds like it would be worth trying if caught.

jonl,
Is yours a NM or NP 3.2 DiD?
I am not sure, but last time I looked at one I don't think they are common rail. The new NS is common rail. Doesn't the NM/NP have an electronically controlled rotary fuel pump and normal mechanical injectors rather than electronically controlled injectors off a common rail?
