depends on what you want to do.

It is the most common.

If you want connection to emergency services and help, then it is pretty good.

If what you want is telephone interconnect, then perhaps Radtel or similar services like that might help.

There you have it.

Best to shop around to see what you really need. I'm a member of the Bust Telegraph - found under http://www.reidsradiodata.com.au/ and their prices are very reasonable. They have a basic entry level pricing (5 freqs/selcall) and also an upper level pricing for telephone calls, etc. I have an 8528 with a FAMPARC multi-tap antenna on my fourby and got the basic level entry as I may not be travelling until the DEC/JAN period.Checked my selcall from Mornington Peninsula VIC to Cowra NSW (primary base) worked great and crystal clear. Hope this helps but the choice is really up to you.

Hi David,
I have been a member of the VKS 737 Network for over 13 years and could not say a bad word about them. With their network of Bases across Australia, you can always get hold of someone if you require help.

The operators are a top group of dedicated people and are always there to help out or for a friendly chat. I know that there are other networks, but I have never heard anyone in our desert travels trying to make contact with them, rather the other way round.

To me, the good old HF is still the most reliable communications for outback travel.

Cheers

Stephen

I have been a member of VKS-737 for about 9 years now and for what they charge it is an amazing level of service. I would pay the money for a donation even if i didn't use their service.
