hello all,
I have a 11/91 model 80 series cruiser and I need to know the difference between this model and earlier models ( 05/90-07/91) regarding the coil springs. I want to lift it 2inch's but have been told there are two different set up's. Can anyone please tell me what these differences are?
Thanks: Phil

Think you'll find aftermarket suppliers won't differentiate in the years you're referring to. I just put ironman springs and foam cell shocks in mine and they definitely didn't ask for that.Mine is a 1990

Hi Phil,

I think you might be right about the 2 different set-ups and I think the difference might be the length of the coil spring. I remember asking the same question about 2 years ago.

I have a 6/1990 80 Series and when i was looking for new coils I noticed in the King Springs catalogue that the coil springs were divided into pre 7/91 and after 7/91.
It seems that the coil that is listed as a standard height in the pre 7/91 models has the same catalogue# that will give all later models a 2" lift.

Something interesting is that King Springs were the only manufacturer that identified the difference between the early and later models. I could only conclude from this that the earlier models had a longer standard spring.

This was confirmed to me when my brother gave me a set of 2" lift coils about a year ago that he pulled out of his 95 model and when I put them in my 90 model it sat at exactly the same height as the standard coils I pulled out.

I have recently fitted a set of H/D springs which have given my cruiser 3" of lift. They were advertised as 5" lift. I am happy as it was the 3" I was after.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Brett

What happened at that time is the RTA changed te rules for height of the tail lights, Nissan, and most others put lights in the bumper,. but the 80 was lowered to comply....resulting in a 40mm drop....the early model also had the dreaded landcruiser lerch due to soft shox and small swaybars.
While the springs wont give you as much lift as advertised, they will make the ride firmer and less rocky :)

As usual Dozer, your replies are always very informative. I look forward to your contributions as your knowledge of Landcruisers is extensive to say the least.

Thanks Mate!
