Ok, so who can tell me what is Longini Landing? We seem to have a waypoint for it in Places, but no photos and no description and no internet search reveals anything to clarify. From the position, I assume this is the proper name of the site locally known as "The Washing Machine", alongside the banks of the King Edward River just out of Kalumburu (an old washing machine lies there) which is the only thing I know that could be it. Can anyone shed any light on this place for me. I just need to know if there's anything there, if it is indeed the same place as the WM or am I missing something really special that no one is telling me? One thing the internet did reveal is that the site is used as a landing point for a barge that delivers mining equipment during the wet season instead of using the roads. Wow. Anyway, I'm after some relevant info for us travellers if there's any.

I think that the washing machine marks the turn off from the main dirt track.

All the best

Good fishing if you walk over to the river at the washing machine

Have not seen the washing machine recently, but Longini is the rocky ledge on the King Edward out from Kalumburu. It can be found by taking the track just after the 4th creek crossing when coming from McGowans, or by taking a great boat ride up the King Edward. Great rock bars out the front!

My recollection from when I lived in Kalumburu was that Longini Landing was the old landing where the barge used to come in at the mouth of the King Edward River. It hadn't been used for some years when I was there nearly 5 years ago. I think some of the teachers used to moor their tinnies around there.

The Perkins barge used a landing on the ocean (UTM 52 L 2 42 677E/84 30 948N on the Hema SD5209 Drysdale map) in my time and I can't for the life of me remember the local name for the spot. I've got a few photos of the Darwin barge being unloaded there one morning.

Washing Machine was just out of "town" and a fishing spot for locals who didn't have a vehicle and had to walk. Known to produce some good barra at the right time.

WM and Longini are two quite different places.

Thank you PhilD and Troopy - thanks for verifying this. I knew if I waited I'd get the answer. So, it seems that Longini really isn't a point of interest for travellers to Kalumburu which is really what I need to know. Just seemed weird that it cropped up and then I couldn't work out why the spot even had a name in the Place Name database - I'll put it down to old data and move on to some more gripping research. Have a great weekend :-)
