Hi
Ive got a st patrol with a impco gas system on it. I get conflicting advice on the best way to drive the vehicle.

At the moment, I start it on petrol in the morning, then after a few minutes running, I change to LPG. Should you always start it on petrol or only first thing in the morning? It has poor power for towing on gas, so would I assume most people tow on patrol for the added power?
thanks
Justin

Hi Justin,
I have the same system on my 80 series landcruiser. The mechanic told me the system switch automaticly from petrolto gas after few seconds if you start the car on gas in the morning ... but I thin it is a good isea run it on petrol for the first 5 mins and then turn it on gas .... I usualy do it when the engine is hot ....

Hi Justin,
I have a Parnell svi system on my LC100 v8. It always starts on gas and when the combination of 60 degrees water temp, 1500 rpm and not less than 20 secs after starting all come together it will automatically switch over to gas. These are the manufactures normal operating conditions, however, they can be modified through the switching system to your own preferences. There is no noticable power difference between gas and petrol therefore if towing is needed I just stay on gas.

Gday Justin
I have an old 3ltr petrol patrol on gas , i run it all the time on gas, morning noon and night. I tow a camper on gas . The only time that it runs on petrol is when i run out of gas. It starts on gas in the mornings , even tho i have removed the manifold heater it has not made any difference to starting.

I hope this helps.

the intial cold start should automatically start on Petrol and change to gas within a few seconds. My Patrol does.

Subsequent starts are on gas.

I mostly tow my CT on gas , but have certainly turned back to Petrol on a few occassions in the steeper hills.

The one thing I have found that helps is to Run the higher octane fuel in it. For me its usually Vortex 98.

I was told (not sure how reliable it actually is though) , because LPG actually has quite a high octane rating , but not a high energy rating , if you switch between fuels , the lower octane means the puter can have trouble adapting. The higher octane means the change isn't as great.

For me it works.
