I have been using my Uniden GNS 8600 for
well over a year now and am tired of driving down our country 'non-existant' roads' (they don't show up on the GPS)..I am not on about offroad tracks, but graded roads,
sign posted roads..Surely Uniden or their map provider must have an up-date by now..Kind of defeats the purpose of having a great quality and featured GPS if all I have is a mark on an otherwise empty screen..Uniden list updates for a 501 or something..Anyone got any clues on this please..

I know for my Navman you can go onto their website and buy a updated version of the maps for about $300 or something
Might be the same for you

Thks for that Troll 81,but their web site is very basic and no mention of being able to buy any upgrades either.I'm in mkt for another for my other rig,so guess it won't be a Uniden, stick with the top four.

If you've got as many problems as you say with a lack of identified roads on your GPS maps, I suggest that you check back with the supplier and ask them what is going on. It sounds like you might not have your system correctly setup. Did you purchase it here in Australia? Or is it an import perhaps off e-bay? If an import, you might have a problem as the unit might not have the base map for Australia installed. I have a Garmin Quest (purchased in Aust.) and if I disable the Aust. base map, it displays a series of maps for the Pacific Region. There is very little detail when it comes to secondary roads etc. Perhaps this is the problem with yours. From what I've seen on the Uniden (Australian) web site, your unit should be supplied with UBD maps and Sensis Where Is data base. My experience with UBD paper maps has been one of great user satisfaction. Perhaps someone else might have some other suggestions for you.

I have just finished a caravan trip around Australia with a uniden gns8600 on the dash it was usless. It cost $1605.00 that included a two year extended warranty.
You were lucky if it excepted one out of ten street names.
Some times it would tell you to make a right turn, then make a U
turn if possible then make a right turn. my wife provented me from smashing the usless thing. I will now try and get my money back because I was told by harvey norman that it would be upgraded later, I had no time to mess about with it before I left on the big one. I decided that I could down load the updates through my laptop as we traveled. No upgrades. They are advertised some place in the Eastern states for $ 400.00.

Buying from a recognized GPS provider is a better bet...ie Garmin, Magellan, Navman...........
