Hey Forumites

I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with an electrical problem! My Brake lights are stuck on permanently! I have checked and removed the brake light switch and they stay on, have pulled all the fuses from the fuse box and they stay on, it started a while ago with them coming on intemittently but has now become a real issue as the only way to make them go off it to disconnect the negative cable on the battery!
Any ideas of things to check would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

G'day Chef,

Do you have a trailer connection/towbar etc? It maybe an issue with a short in the trailer plug connection.

Just a thought....good luck.

Cheers

Agree with Roachie

A while back I had similar problem with my trailer. It was a short in the trailer plug causing the power from one light to to light up another.

Cheers, hope you track it down

Now this is a long shot, but it happened to me.
The filament of the stop/tail bulb broke on the taillight part and then fell across the stop filament. with the taillights on the stoplights were also on all the time.
Solution , new bulbs.
You do not say if it's with the taillights on. Otherwise I agree that you may have a short between the accessories terminal of your trailer plug and the stop light terminal.

Do you have a Voyager brake controller installed? The faulty ones did this. Unplug the connector at the back. If it cures your brake light problem then take it to someone who will have it swapped over for a new one - it is a known problem and Tekonsha are replacing them.

Yep, What Peter said.

It sounds exactly like the problems some people were having with Tekonsha Voyager Brake controllers.

The best fix is to replace the Voyager with a Tekonsha Prodigy.

Thanks guys for all the info, I do have a Tekonsha Voyger installed so have disconnected it and all seems to be good so far (touch wood). The lights went out as soon as it was disconnected so will now wait a couple of days and cancel the sparky visit. Thanks again to all who replied.
