I have a problem with the long range
tank on my GQ. When it's filled right up it seems to have a leak which lasts for 100kms or so. It comes from on top somewhere. I phoned the previous owner and he said that it only did it once for him probably bs). He thinks it was probably the hose which lets the air out when the
tank fills?? I really don't know how to go about working out a fix. Are tanks easy to remove/install? Should i be taking it to somewhere like ARB? Any info appreciated.

Is it possible that the gasket from the filler/breather has perished??
and when full leaks from there.
To remove and fit the tanks are relatively easy to do, easier if you have a hoist and an extra set of hands.
Cheers Kev

Not sure about the GQ's but the GU's have an access panel in the rear cargo area (under the carpet) that you can remove and access the sender assembly of the
tank. Find this and then fill her up to see what is happening.
A problem with some LR tanks is that the barbs or replacement hoses are slightly different to each other and you really need tight clamps (or 2 clamps in my case) to make for good seals.

David

Hi Grungle, yes the GQ does have an access panel and i have sussed this out but unfortunately it doesn't allow me to see quite far enough across to where the hoses are. I hope that this is all thats wrong with the
tank. I think i may have to remove it :( . Thanks for the response.

G'day Al, I'm unsure as to who did the installation. How did you access the pipe? It sounds like this may be the problem. Cheers

hi brew
if it the same as
mine you fill both tanks through the original filler one over flows into the other you access the pipe top end by removing the cover under the wheel arch
the pipe goes over top of main
tank then on to second
tank which is easy access the hard part is feeding the new pipe over the top of original
tank took me about 2 hours may need second person to help when you reconnect at
y junction top end.
hope this helps i used stainless steel clamps they use on turbos.
regards
al

Brew
I had a temporary problem with fuel leaking out of the cap when me mate cross threaded the screw-in fuel cap. If its not that then it has to be a venting problem.
Tank should be easy enough to uninstall(if thats the word). Use a couple of trolley jacks to balance the
tank and lower it after removing all bolts.
Cheers

There is an oring on the fuel sender which nobody replaces when they put new tanks in, thats where I would start
failing that, just lower th
tank using a trolley jack, and look that way -ITS HEAVY WHEN EMPTY! theres only MM clearances in there when you lower the
tank too, real PITA job, but ya gotta do it.
you do know the inspection panel in the right rear wheel arch allows you to see in there a little easier... specially if you have a body lift.
