G'day All,
I was reading on another website that a bloke had recently travelled the CSR, and found the Kunawarritju Community all but abandoned and no fuel available?
Does anyone have any info regarding this?

That happened to us in 06 at Punmu, which lies west of
Kunawarritji. The community was abandoned. All gone on Sorry Business. Only about 20 dogs left in the place and they saw us off!! As a result we were not able to get to
places further afield as we needed to replenish our fuel supplies there.
Kunawarritji though, is a pretty established community, so it is strange if this is true.

When we travelled west along the
Gary Junction Road late July, a group travelling the other way told us that Kunawarritju Community was closed and had no fuel.
We had plenty of fuel, but when we got there, a new employee was working the pumps, and she was only too happy to sell us fuel even though it was outside their normal opening hours.
A few weeks later, we were back on the Canning and they ran out of fuel for about 3 days.
Nothing unusual in the remote areas. Just something you have to work around, and don't believe everything you're told.

We travelled the CSR in the first two weeks of August. We stopped at Kunawarritju community and found fuel without problems. The lady said that they had trouble with their fuel supplies but that was being overcome. She was the contractor who set up the
shop about four years earlier but succeeding contractors had allowed the place to fall badly into disrepair. She had been asked to fill in until the new contractor commenced some weeks later. Hopefully it will return to the advertised reliability.

In mid July fuel was $2.80 a litre and no credit cards.

We paid for our fuel with credit card. Diesel was $2.80, unleaded was $3.20.

We visited Kunawarritju in mid-Aust 2007. No problems with fuel ($2.80 ltr) and the small
shop was operating. Also a $2 shower was available.
