Evening all, just after some opinions/comments on what is thought to be best for storing center pole tent , large tarp sleeping bags, beding ect, on the rhino roof racks, Spacescase 1100x900x450, Thule Ocean 80 1330x860x370, or a roof bag.
Thanks

The centre pole tent, and tarp will occasionally get wet and muddy, so I wouldn't put them in a box, pod or bag which are really just for clean/dry stuff.

Pyro can only comment on the Thule box as I have had one for about 12 years and it has been a great bit of gear.
Bought it originally to store the oz tent in but just use it now for cloths, bedding and pillows.Never leaks dust or
water and is lockable.
Hope that helps,,
Cheers Scoof .. :-)

We too have a centre pole tent. Comes in a fairly heavy duty bag but I am going to get a good canvas zip up bag when I get a chance. The tent just sits by itself in the roof rack when that is all I carry up there.
If it is a longer trip however then we have recently aquired a top quality full size canvas roof bag (thanks Roachie!) and to make things neat I put the tent in the back of that and stuff other soft lightweight stuff at the front of it and zip the whole thing up.
Best thing about a good quality roof bag is that it can mould down to the shape of what you are carrying rather than being the same shape all the time. Yes, it takes a little longer to put tiedowns over it (I use straps to secure the load and then a trailer net to prevent the canvas flapping) but when buttoned down it is less of a wind catcher than a full size box or pod. Also folds up to near nothing when it is not in use.
Cheers
Muddy

Muddy,
just a couple of things what brand of bag do you have and do you still put things like sleeping bags and alike in
water proof bags just in case, I like the part about when not in use.
thanks.

I've built shelf inside the back of my fourbie for stashing the tent. Instead of rolling the tent, we fold ours flat and slide it under the shelf. That means we can access it without having to unload everything else. It can be the first thing to dragged out when we get to he
campsite, and when we pack up it's the last thing to be put away. And being in the back of the truck, it's out of the weather and at easy handling height.

Its actually made by Bushranger and its the largest size and set us back about $299. We had to do special treatment over the zipper - helps stop the dust etc - but dont do this in the house!! We had roaring head aches for 2 days!!
Packing them - ummm - no real proper way to pack them, as long as they are nice and even over the car. We had the tent on one side, dbl swasg on the other with single in the middle, porta cot down one of the sides, up the back of it goes the
camping chairs and anything else that needs to be put in there - usually the Cobb Cooker....
We busted 1 tooth in the zip but still no dust leaks - or
water.
Hope all this helps.
